Lead Technical Consultant - SAP Variant Configuration
Summary And Responsibilities
Variant Configuration stands – for companies selling and manufacturing configurable products – at the heart of their quoting, selling, producing, delivering, and potentially even their procuring and servicing processes. It is essential to their business; they can’t run their business without it.
Argano is the leading provider of variant configuration implementation and support services within the SAP arena. Its knowledge of SAP’s Variant Configurator technologies, and its expertise in their application, is unsurpassed.
Argano’s services include, and are the responsibility of the SAP Variant Configuration Lead Technical Consultant to deliver:
- Analysis of the customer’s product offering within the context of its quoting, selling, producing, procuring, delivering, and servicing processes from front (customer) to back (supplier), and determination, together with the customer, of which of SAP’s variant configuration technologies would be appropriate at which process point;
- Analysis of the current state of the customer’s legacy variant configurator tools and data, and determination, again with participation from the customer, of the most appropriate method(s) for their conversion to SAP’s variant configurator technology;
- Guidance in establishing the customer’s own Variant Configuration Competence Center, and selection and training of the customer’s resources, sufficient to enable their active participation in the activities just described;
- On-going variant configuration product and product system modeling support.
Knowledge And Abilities
Given the origins of SAP’s Variant Configuration technologies in the first wave of AI (knowledge-based, deductive expert systems), the ability to deliver on these responsibilities is founded on and requires not only strong conceptual aptitudes in logic and mathematics, but also a thorough, practiced grasp of object orientation and declarative reasoning.
In practical terms, that translates to deep expertise in the:
- Core modules of all three variant configurator technologies:
- Materials and Bills-of-material
- Classification (classes, characteristics, class hierarchies and networks, class nodes, material classifications)
- Dependency logic (constraint nets, constraints)
- Variant Configurator and Advanced Variant Configurator:
- Configuration profiles, procedures, selection conditions
- Solution Sales Configurator:
- Knowledgebase profiles, tasks, rule nets, rules, functions
As well as working knowledge of the processes into which these modules are embedded:
- Configure-Price-Quote, Quote-to-Invoice, Forecast-to-Produce, Procure-to-Pay
Over and above all these, however, especially within the context of our delivery, it requires:
- An exceptional ability to teach.
Competencies And Skills
In addition to everything described above, successful carrying out of these responsibilities will be facilitated by:
- 5+ years' experience in SAP VC or SSC modeling, or similar configuration modeling with complex products and/or systems.
- 5+ years’ experience in Java, C#, Python, Groovy, C++, JavaScript programming languages
- Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Mechanical Engineering.
