Senior/Staff Software Engineer - BioInformatics (US, CA Hybrid)

Location: On-site South San Francisco, CA position (Hybrid)

We need a Senior/Staff Software Engineer to help Myriad Genetics, Inc. deliver innovative products that allow patients to make life-changing decisions. Our genetic screening and testing help to provide actionable insights to empower people to make critical and timely healthcare decisions by using molecular diagnostic tests for hereditary cancer, urological cancer, depression, and other diseases. We are excited about the future and remain committed to advancing the science of personalized medicine as we develop more products to address unmet medical needs. 

We are looking for a new member to join the Bioinformatics software engineering team at Myriad and help build scalable data management and analysis pipelines, delivering meaningful health impacts to hundreds of thousands of patients a year.

The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a collaborative, multidisciplinary R&D environment as we build innovative solutions for bioinformatics software systems. They will have a scientific curiosity with eagerness to learn and explore new challenges since their work will enable breakthroughs in genomics.

What You Will Do 

• Architect cloud-based data management strategies for handling petabyte scale of genetic data.
• Support regulatory requirements by designing sophisticated tracking systems.
• Design highly scalable modular compute architectures for bioinformatics pipelines.
• Support multi-cloud data management and data transfer strategies.
• Employ best practices in AWS storage management and Disaster Recovery.
• Develop cost accounting systems & provide oversight for cost management.

About You  

• 7+ years of software engineering in industry demonstrating excellence in programming, cloud-based architecture, database design, and scaling
• Strong and deep knowledge of at least one cloud-based platform (AWS preferred) 
• Proficient with Python
• Experience with Unix, Git, Docker, CI/CD, and Agile environments
• Serverless architecture design; Lambdas, State Machines
• Storage management, archiving, disaster recovery
• Database management, Snowflake, RDS
• Experience using (or interest in learning) computational tools to analyze genomic data
• Experience designing bioinformatics pipelines is a plus
• Experience with bioinformatics algorithms; alignment, variant calling is a plus
• Exposure to regulated environments or CAP / CLIA laboratories is a plus
