Job Overview

APTIM's Sustainability team is currently seeking San Francisco based zero waste specialist(s) to support our waste minimization team for public and private sector clients. The ideal candidate(s) will have 2+ years demonstrated experience working on solid waste related issues including zero waste, waste minimization, sustainable materials management, organic waste diversion, and recycling.

Key Responsibilities/Accountabilities

  • Perform material sorting services/evaluations to assist clients identify contamination and waste reduction, recycling and/or organic diversion opportunities
  • Provide technical assistance via in-person and virtual to support client diversion needs and/or mandates
  • Conduct in-person waste audits/sorts related to City of San Francisco ordinances and/or state mandates
  • Support relationships with regulatory entities and the City's hauler
  • Stay up to date on emerging solid waste related regulations

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in sustainability, environmental policy, environmental studies, climate science, comprehensive planning, or related field is preferred
  • Knowledge and experience on solid waste, recycling, zero waste, circular economy, plastics and packaging, and waste minimization strategies, etc. occurring in states across the U.S. and at the national level
  • Fieldwork experience performing waste evaluations and audits
  • The ability to present ideas effectively and deliver presentations suited to the characteristics and needs of the audience
  • Effective written/verbal communication, presentation, and public speaking experience
  • Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and travel.

2+ years' experience in several of the following areas:

  • Solid waste management, recycling, zero waste, and circular economy
  • Sustainable materials management
  • Plastics and packaging
