Job description

Salary Range: $25-$60 (depending on location, education, and certifications)

Location: Remote in United States

Job Summary:

Sorenson’s Corporate Interpreting Team provides sign language interpreting services for Sorenson employees, customers, and guests who have varying communication preferences and needs. Most often though, this team provides interpreting services for Deaf professionals employed by the company.

Interpreting services are provided in a variety of settings such as:

  • Staff meetings,
  • Company-wide announcements,
  • Trainings (groups varying in size),
  • Interviews, and
  • Product Review Meetings.


These meetings may take place in person, remotely – byway of the videophone, other technology platforms, or a combination of both.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

A successful candidate must be an energetic self-starter with well-developed interpersonal skills and exceptional communications skills. Such qualities will help the candidate effectively navigate and interpret in a highly technical and fast-paced environment. The candidate must be flexible and able to easily adjust to new and challenging circumstances while maintaining the role of the interpreter.

In addition, the candidate will comply with the following:

  • Comply with the Code of Professional Conduct established by the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf.
  • Candidate will work with the Lead Interpreter to develop a professional development plan to continue enhancing interpreting skill sets.


The Corporate Interpreting Team culture fosters creativity, while encouraging positivity, open dialogue and feedback amongst one another. A successful candidate must be a team player who displays the ability to thrive on a staff interpreting team.

This position is for full time employment, with benefits. If selected, the candidate will be required to work Monday – Friday, for 40 hours per week. This position may require occasional assignments on the weekend or after hours.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities Required:

  • Exceptional understanding of Deaf Culture.
  • Fluency in ASL and English.
  • Exceptional interpreting skills in ASL and English.
  • Thorough understanding and adherence to RID’s Code of Professional Conduct.
  • Familiarity and experience in helping build an understanding of Deaf Culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and be flexible; ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and respectfully across multiple departments and employees, who are both Deaf and hearing from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to interpret in a highly technical and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to mentor both highly skilled and experienced interpreters as well as new or less experienced interpreters.
  • Flexibility to work with a challenging schedule, including last minute requests.
  • Ability to receive feedback and implement positive changes.

Experience Requirements:

  • Current Certification from one of the following: RID - NIC (all levels), RID – CSC, CI/CT; NAD - IV, V; Utah Professional; BEI - III, IV, or V; BEI - Advanced or Master.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience as a sign language interpreter.
  • Previous experiences as a VRS Interpreter.


Other General Requirements:

  • Physical Demands:
    • Able to sit/ stand for a long period of time in an office environment
    • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, tools, and to handle other computer components
    • Ability to travel and work nights and weekend
  • Due to the variety of positions held by Deaf and hard or hearing employees, our must be flexible for various assignments, have an extensive vocabulary, strong work ethic, and dedication to their customers.
  • Positive and energetic attitude.
  • Regular and predictable attendance required.
