Role Overview:

As our very first SecOps team member, you will play a pivotal role in safeguarding our organization's digital infrastructure against a myriad of cyber threats. Your duties will include a range of critical tasks such as continuous monitoring of network activity, analyzing security alerts, investigating potential breaches, and orchestrating rapid response protocols when incidents occur. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to implement and enforce security policies, conduct regular vulnerability assessments, and stay abreast of emerging threats and industry best practices. Advanced knowledge of SOC2 and ISO27001 is a must.

This is a hybrid role working from our Melbourne or Sydney locations.

Key Competencies:

Secops Engineers at Blinq are expected to embody the following competencies

1. Technical Excellence:
  • Demonstrate advanced proficiency and expertise within specialized technical domains.
  • Advanced domain knowledge proactively and reactively increasing the security of software systems. You love teaching other engineers about common and strange attack vectors, you have CVEs notifications on high alert.
  • Boast a comprehensive understanding of programming languages, methodologies, and tools, utilizing this knowledge to autonomously tackle technical obstacles.
  • Provide mentorship to junior colleagues, offering valuable technical direction and guiding them in terms of best practices from a security perspective.

  • 2. Architecture & Systems:
  • Act as a key player in system design talks, contributing to architectural choices ensuring we stay compliant.
  • Work proactively to increase the security posture of our core customer facing apps, especially around identity, authorisation, and authentication.
  • Ensure the architecture and design of our internal systems and controls is kept up to date with best practice.
  • Take the lead in designing major system elements, ensuring they harmonize seamlessly with the broader system architecture.

  • 3. Better on the Inside:
  • Actively lead and drive improvements to internal workflows.
  • Champion initiatives aimed at optimizing operations, swiftly identifying and rectifying bottlenecks.
  • Introduce fresh strategies to elevate internal tools, methodologies, and workflows, showcasing a proactive stance towards refining internal systems and processes, particularly when it comes to systematisation of security practices: key rotation, secrets storage, and secure engineering approaches are your jam.

  • 4. Leadership:
  • Embody remarkable leadership attributes, and be passionate about up-skilling others from a technical standpoint.
  • Spearhead initiatives, motivate team members, and actively foster a supportive, comfortable work environment.
  • Showcase accountability, taking full ownership of tasks.
  • Influence team dynamics and serve as an exemplary figure amongst colleagues.

  • 5. Teamwork:
  • Provide strong leadership within teams, serving as a mentor and guide to junior and mid-level engineers.
  • Actively mentor and guide team members, cultivating an atmosphere of teamwork and knowledge exchange.
  • Play a pivotal role in the team's successes, celebrate wins collectively, and foster an environment of open communication to tackle complex challenges collaboratively.

  • Now, let's talk about our inspiring work environment:

🇦🇺 Based in Melbourne, Australia, our vibrant team of 40 (and growing rapidly) is making waves in the industry.
🍺 Fun-fact: Our office overlooks the oldest building in Australia, an enchanting old Irish pub. Experience history and innovation coming together!
🎲 We believe in fostering a healthy work-life balance, board games, and top-notch stand-up desk workstations. It's all about creativity and collaboration.
🏡 Autonomy is our guiding principle, which is why we embrace hybrid work. Come in when you need to, or work at your optimal hours—whether that's burning the midnight oil or rising with the sun.

    And here's what we offer:
😎As an early member of the Blinq family, you'll enjoy a one-of-a-kind chance to influence the company's direction in a dynamic, self-managed, and results-driven startup environment. Say goodbye to corporate nonsense and micro-management because here, you are your own boss. We believe in empowering our team members to unleash their full potential.
💸Equity in the business and a competitive salary: We value our team members and want to ensure they share in our success.
✨But here's the real magic: at Blinq, we're not just creating innovative solutions – we're creating a culture that thrives on transparency, autonomy, collaboration, and big ideas. We believe in celebrating individuality and encouraging out-of-the-box thinking. With us, you'll be inspired to push boundaries, drive innovation, and ultimately leave a lasting impact on our users on both B2C and B2B realms

🚨 If you do not check all the boxes above, that is okay - we enthusiastically encourage you to apply!
