Role Description:
Experience working hands-on with communication projects that involve link margin estimation, interference analysis, and satellite communications system design (systems compliant with DVBS2-X and/or CCSDS is a plus).
Responsibilities & Duties:
- As a part of Pixxel’s communications engineering group, you will be responsible for the architecture of the spacecraft communications subsystem.
- You’ll be responsible for translating mission requirements into systems and subsystem requirements and component selection as well as subsystem architecture to satisfy these requirements.
- You will be responsible for analytically validating the design for requirements compliance via link margin analysis and any other relevant numerical methods.
- You will work with the mission design team to close the loop on ground station selection, as well as implement VCM (variable coding and modulation) schemes in compliance with the ground station to maximize data throughput.
- You’ll take up ownership of the design and set up incoming checks as well as unit tests for all components of the communication subsystem.
- You’ll be responsible for qualifying the design by creating a subsystem-level design validation plan (could include testing an RF equivalent model in an anechoic chamber).
Desirable Skills & Certifications:
- Experience with python/matlab or any other high-level programming language
- Experience with satellite communications, especially for satellites in the lower-earth orbit (LEO).
- Experience with the ITU licensing process, center frequency selection, and interference analysis.
- Strong understanding of electromagnetic theory and relevant constraints on antenna placements

About Pixxel
Pixxel is a space data company, building a constellation of hyperspectral earth imaging satellites and the analytical tools to mine insights from that data. Pixxel’s constellation is designed to provide global coverage every 24 hours and help detect, monitor, and predict global phenomena across agriculture, mining, environment and energy use cases.
Pixxel is on a mission to build a health monitor for the planet through a constellation of cutting-edge hyperspectral small satellites. This unique hyperspectral capability will be the key to unearth underlying, unseen problems that are invisible to satellites in orbit today.
Pixxel has collaborated with prominent organizations such as the Indian Space Research Organization, NASA JPL, and SpaceX among other leaders in the space industry. The organization is backed by Lightspeed, Radical Ventures, Relativity's Jordan Noone, Seraphim Capital, Ryan Johnson, Blume Ventures, Sparta LLC and Accenture among others.
Recently, Pixxel successfully raised $36 Million in its Series B funding round, with participation from new investors like Google, alongside existing investors, bringing the company's total venture funding to $71 Million.
