Job description

About Us

Since 2016, dbt Labs has been on a mission to help analysts create and disseminate organizational knowledge. dbt Labs pioneered the practice of analytics engineering, built the primary tool in the analytics engineering toolbox, and has been fortunate enough to see a fantastic community coalesce to help push the boundaries of the analytics engineering workflow. Today there are 30,000 companies using dbt every week, 100,000 dbt Community members, and over 4,100 dbt Cloud customers. You can learn more about our values here.

About the role

dbt Core, one of the most popular Open Source Software (OSS) data transformation tools, has continued to grow and has ambitious goals for the year ahead. We are hiring developers in Romania to work on the data warehouse adapters, a key strategic asset of the dbt framework.

This is an existing team within dbt Labs that we are looking to expand. This team needs senior technical leadership and OSS stewardship. As data warehouses and dbt evolve and grow, this person will integrate new capabilities into the dbt adapters and ensure we are able to leverage their evolving functionality. Our data warehouse adapters have a significant OSS footprint so you will be able to work closely with the community and work in the open.

In this role, you can expect to:

  • Lead/ contribute to the development of the interface used by all dbt adapters within the data warehouse adapters codebase and own platform specific changes for a number of individual adapter repositories.
  • Design, develop, test, deploy, and monitor both open-source and proprietary software, ensuring it is reliable, well-tested, and adheres to best coding practices.
  • Create extension and integration points to facilitate custom adapter creation.
  • Develop a robust software framework for seamlessly integrating adapters into dbt Cloud.
  • Collaborate closely with the OSS community, product teams, and other adapter stakeholders.
  • Mentor and support junior team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.

Qualifications:

  • Have 5-10 years experience as a software engineer
  • Minimum requirement of Bachelors degree in related field (computer science, computer engineering, etc.) OR
  • Completed enrollment in engineering related bootcamp

You are a good fit if you:

  • Have worked with data warehouses before and understand both their fundamentals (especially Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery, etc) as well as data engineering principles
  • Are comfortable with leading initiatives and small working groups on projects
  • Value interacting with the OSS community and deeply understanding their needs
  • Support the career development of team members by actively providing mentorship and coaching

You'll have an edge if:

  • Have worked on growing teams developing in a large OSS Python code base
  • Have direct experience with using dbt
  • Have experience working on a distributed team
  • Have been a data engineer in the past

Who we are

At dbt Labs, we have developed strong opinions on how companies should practice analytics.

Specifically, we believe that:

  • Code-based transformations offer unmatched flexibility and transparency across various “multi-player” development to power everyone in the organization to collaborate on a common language
  • Data analysts should adopt similar practices and tools to software developers
  • Critical analytics infrastructure should be controlled by its users as open source software
  • Analytic code itself — not just analytics tools — will increasingly be open source

It turns out that a lot of other people believe this too! Today, there are 30,000 companies using dbt every week, 100,000 dbt Community members, and 4,100 companies paying for dbt Cloud. Our customers include JetBlue, Hubspot, Vodafone New Zealand, and Dunelm. dbt is synonymous with the practice of analytics engineering, defining an entire industry. We’re backed by top investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia Capital, and Altimeter.

dbt Labs is an equal opportunity employer. We're committed to building an inclusive team that welcomes a diversity of perspectives, people, and backgrounds regardless of race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, religion, disability, citizenship, veteran status, or any other protected status. We feel strongly that whether or not your experience exactly fits the job description, your passion and skills will stand out and set you apart even if your career has taken some twists and turns.  If you are on the fence about whether you meet our requirements, we encourage you to apply anyway!
