Overview:

E2 is looking for a Lead Distribution Engineers to join our team in Southern California (remote work is also available) to support several major electric utility clients.  The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a team of up to 10 engineers, designers, and drafters in developing and preparing underground distribution line projects including, but not limited to: plan and profiles, trench and conduit design, cable and connector design, cable pole or overhead pole removal design, and material selection in compliance with safety, environmental and client standards and policies.  The position will work under the direction of the Distribution Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities:

The successful candidate will lead a team in developing construction work packages for the electric distribution system using various software systems and construction standards.

  • Apply high-level electrical engineering techniques and processes to identify improvements for various infrastructure project phases including concept development, preliminary design, final design, procurement, construction, and operation Verify Bill of Materials meet the requirements of the design and client needs.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as voltage drop/flicker and pulling tension calculations.
  • Conduct electrical design review meetings and provide minutes.
  • Interface with project management and designers during the design phase.
  • Support manufacturing with fabrication drawings and other related information as required.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with the project manager, client, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform careful self-checking activities to ensure the quality of work before it is presented to senior design reviewers.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, or Civil Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience working in distribution design or similar with utility or consulting engineering firm.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical distribution systems (4kV through 35kV).
  • Proficient using Microsoft Office suite (e.g., Excel, Word, and Outlook).
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills.

 

Preferred

  • Registered Professional Engineer or ability to obtain registration.
  • Relevant experience is either working directly with an electric utility or an electric utility consulting company, performing design engineering, and leading teams.
  • Experience with overhead-to-underground conversion projects for SDG&E is strongly preferred.

Wage Data Per State Requirements:

Salary range for this position is $125,000 - $150,000.  The starting salary will be commensurate with skill, education, experience, and working environment.
