Editor in Chief, Food Sciences

Location: Beijing or Shanghai, China

About the role:

We are looking for a talent for Editor in Chief, Food Sciences to join our Publishing Development Life Sciences team. The Editor in Chief will use their scientific expertise, knowledge and network to edit and develop journals in food biochemistry and general food science and nutrition and represent Wiley within the scientific community. 

How you will make an impact:

  • Take sole editorial responsibility for one journal as Editor in Chief
  • Take a leading editorial position for one or more other journals, collaborating with Editors in Chief and other editors in the research community
  • Manage overall journal pipeline and performance from commissioning through to submission, screening, peer review and final decision on manuscripts
  • Screen new submissions and handle manuscripts through peer review. Optimize time from submission to final decision. Deliver an excellent author experience
  • Oversee strategic development of your journals
  • Define or contribute to journal aims and scope
  • Define commissioning strategy
  • Build relationships and drive submissions from authors (1 on 1).
  • Have your finger on the pulse of research community and broader subject area. Stay up to date, know the key players, ensure consistent standards and visibility for your journals
  • Appoint and manage editorial board members
  • Constant community outreach (virtual and in-person) to enhance personal network, commissioning, journal and Wiley visibility, understanding of the subject and community
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Food Science team, contributing to journal networks and strategic plans
  • Represent Wiley at scientific conferences, publishing events and webinars
  • Lead generation and ideas for other products passed on to appropriate colleagues.

  • Academic subject-matter expertise (PhD in related field is essential, while postdoctoral research experience is desirable)
  • A network of contacts in food science and related areas
  • Manuscript handling experience (screening, peer review, final decision, appeals and integrity cases)

  • Strong presentation skills and ability to engage an audience
  • Takes a strategic perspective and sets exciting vision and direction for journals with other handling editors
