Student Assistant – Financial Planning and Analysis

ASU Enterprise Partners is an efficient network of highly skilled teams; it is comprised of a full complement of professional services that work in concert with specialized business units to provide full resources and extend Arizona State University’s ability to achieve its charter.  

The Student Assistant – Financial Planning and Analysis will be responsible for helping advance many of the initiatives within the Business Planning and Strategy (BPS) team at ASU Enterprise Partners (ASUEP).  This role will be responsible for assisting in budget and planning analysis, creating presentations, project work, financial modeling, and will assist in developing and recommending creative solutions for real business challenges. 

The position will require approximately 20 hours per week, with additional availability during the non-school year.

What you'll do:
  • Assists in developing, maintaining, and enhancing forecasting models, including creation of new models and integration of new tools as new business needs arise 

  • Takes full and direct responsibility to support and achieve all aspects of assigned projects from initial stages through to completion 

  • Performs data analysis using tools such as Microsoft Excel (i.e., Pivot Tables) in order to report and track key metrics to allow the COO leadership team to draw decisions and improve processes 

  • Gathers and consolidates data from various stakeholders to determine underlying trends and/or future projections  

  • Builds workflows and maps data processes based on input from key partners and stakeholders 

  • Creates, designs, and builds reports and presentations that include graphs, tables, and charts to translate data findings into visualizations that are easily understood 

  • Prepares and organizes documentation such as templates, process maps, diagrams, and data flows  

  • Provides additional project support (i.e., data collection, analysis, updating project status) to the BPS team as needed 

  • Other projects and duties as assigned 

What you'll need:
  • Highly motivated, self-driven, and displays the willingness to learn and develop new skills  

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel) with the ability to create Pivot Tables and visualize data 

  • Attention to detail and thoroughness in completing assigned duties 

  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects 

  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills  

  • Ability to quickly learn new software programs as needed 

  • Collaborative style, combined with the ability and desire to work in a team-based environment 

  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and by phone with senior members of organizations 

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team 

  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality and responsibility regarding information related to Enterprise Partners, its subsidiaries and University business and confidential prospect information 

  • Problem solver who can take initiative and set priorities while being flexible 

  • Ability to represent the institution well 

  • An advocate’s belief in the vision of ASU as the New American University 

  • Adept at navigating complex environments with evolving priorities and communication plans 

Relevant qualifications: 
  • A current undergraduate or graduate student at Arizona State University pursuing a degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Data Analytics, or related field with a willingness to learn and ability to work well with others.  The student must be willing to sign and abide by a confidentiality agreement.
