Your opportunity
Dillon’s Communities and Environment technical group is looking for an Intermediate Transportation Drainage Engineer/Designer to join our multidisciplinary team of professionals. You will have the opportunity to work on new and exciting projects while providing clients with a fully integrated and superior customer experience. At Dillon, we operate as one team. Responsibilities:
What your day will look like
Project Management & Design
- Provide technical leadership and design expertise for highway and roadway drainage projects, including bridges, culverts, ditching, erosion and scour protection, and storm sewer systems.
- Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling and analysis utilizing software such as Visual OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS.
- Develop and implement stormwater management strategies to provide water quality and quantity controls to mitigate flooding and ensure environmental protection.
- Prepare detailed designs, calculations, cost estimates, specifications, and contract documents.
- Manage project scope, budget, and schedule to ensure timely and efficient project delivery.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including planners, environmental scientists, and other engineers, to achieve project objectives.
- Regular interaction with clients, agencies, utilities and other project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior staff.
- Provide technical input for delivery of water resource management projects and proposals.
- Provide project management and coordination support for transportation and water resources projects.

Qualifications:
What you will need to succeed
- Undergraduate degree in engineering or applicable technical degree or diploma.
- 5+ years’ relevant experience in transportation and municipal drainage design.
- Valid driver's license.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, ArcGIS, Visual OTTHYMO, PCSWMM, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, and related computer models.
- Strong understanding of municipal and provincial drainage design standards including the Highway Design Standards (2024) and other Ministry of Transportation of Ontario guidelines.
- Excellent communication, report writing, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- A self-motivated individual looking for advancement opportunities.
- Excellent initiative and attention to detail.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in the design and analysis of highway and roadway drainage systems.
- Proven ability to manage projects effectively and meet deadlines.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- A commitment to quality and client satisfaction.
- Experience in flood line mapping, stormwater management, and inflow and infiltration studies would be considered an asset.
- Experience in Alberta and Manitoba would be considered an asset.
