Volunteers of America (VOA) is a faith-based, nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. The VOA network includes more than 16,000 full-time professionals empowering 1.5 million people annually through our 29 affiliates in 46 states. We provide hundreds of service programs, including those for seniors and people with disabilities, those experiencing homelessness, and those recovering from addiction. VOA is one of the nation’s most comprehensive human services charities, offering programs for communities, individuals and families. 

Launched in 2018, the Futures Fund is a social impact investment fund that supports the development and expansion of high impact health, housing and social service models and enterprises within Volunteers of America and as joint-venture partnerships with external community health entrepreneurs. It’s Community Health Incubator is a first-of-its-kind entrepreneurship program at VOA to accelerate social enterprises that improve quality, equity, and access to care for Medicaid and at-risk populations. The program includes business training and coaching, as well as grants and potential venture capital investments to help drive projects from ideation to scaling stages. It’s fourth cohort of approximately 6 ventures will launch in June 2025.

VOA and The Futures Fund is seeking a Social Impact Investing Intern with interest or experience in social entrepreneurship, impact investing and community health. The person in this position will play a vital role in supporting the Futures Fund and its Community Health Incubator, reporting to both VOA’s Vice President of Innovation & Impact Investing and the Sr. Manager, Social Impact Development. The selected candidate will take on such tasks as communications for social media channels, impact data collection and analysis, evaluating processes, partnership building for new funding partners and being a liaison between ventures and affiliates to advance successful implementation of pilots.   

This position extends the opportunity for full-time hours (up to 40 hours per week) and is fully Remote

The internship is unpaid, however, a stipend is provided 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Support the administration of the Incubator, including scheduling and communications between Founders, Mentors and VOA Affiliates
  • Schedule and interview venture founders before the completion of the program to assess satisfaction, program improvements and present findings to Futures Fund key staff and boards
  • Track and report upon the Impact metrics and Key Performance Indicators
  • Assist with the due diligence process of potential Futures Fund Investments, including landscape analysis, risk assessments and proforma modeling
  • Research new partnerships for fundraising and assist with proposals
  • Contribute creatively to support the communications strategy and produce content for Futures Fund webpages, external industry media and intranet
  • Tap into knowledge and experience by providing additional program support

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: 

  • Experience with basic data analysis
  • Interest in impact investing, entrepreneurship and/or community health
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
