We are a growing genetic testing company based in Melbourne, Australia, looking for a Senior Developer to join our growing team of nearly 20 people. Reporting directly to our Head of Engineering, you'll join our cross-functional product development team, responsible for updating our in-house patient management product, improving our user-facing portal, and integrating with partner platforms such as Shopify, Zendesk, Acuity Scheduling, GSuite, and StarShipIt.

Impact
As a Senior Developer at Eugene, you'll have the opportunity to be a force multiplier who makes a meaningful impact. You'll help to automate manual processes, improve customer experiences, and leverage our unique, world-leading data on gene variations and real-world symptoms (known as phenotypes). This role is critical to advancing our mission of empowering people with seamless and actionable healthcare.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Developer, you'll be part of our cross-functional product development team, responsible for:
- Developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining our in-house patient management system, ensuring the highest standards of quality, performance, and security are maintained.
- Integrating with partner platforms such as Shopify, Hubspot, Zendesk, Acuity Scheduling, GSuite, and StarShipIt.
- Establishing technology based integrations with healthcare providers such as laboratories and doctors.
- Continuously monitoring and improving application performance, scalability, and security.
- Staying up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in application development and AI, and sharing knowledge with the team.
- Updating and maintaining our user-facing onboarding portal.
- Collaborating closely with other developers, the Head of Engineering, our Senior Product Manager, Designer, Genetic Counselors, and Growth team to deliver high-quality products in a timely fashion.
- Conducting code reviews and providing constructive feedback.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of experience in web application development, with a focus on modern Laravel PHP development.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop creative solutions to complex problems.
- You are motivated and thrive when given autonomy to execute.
- Are interested in building products at a fascinating intersection of:

Nice to Have:
- Familiarity with React, GraphQL and Tailwind is helpful but not essential.
- Experience with serverless architectures, AWS Lambda, S3, RDS, CloudFormation will help you get up to speed fast. If you've worked in a DevOps role or have a specific interest in that space, even better.

Salary
$120k-$140k base salary (dependent on experience) plus 11.5% superannuation, as well as participation in our generous equity program.

Our hiring process is intentionally designed to be simple, effective, and respectful of everyone's time. The process begins with a phone interview to get to know the candidate and their skills better. After that, candidates will be given a code challenge to complete. Finally, candidates who successfully complete the code challenge will be invited to a technical interview to discuss their experience and skills in more detail.
