Job description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Special Educator position on our Early Supports for Infants and Toddlers (ESIT) Team will have the opportunity to help us develop and scale a best-in-class Early Intervention program for ages 0-3. This position will provide sensory processing and play-based therapy to children in natural environments, including their homes, classrooms, and other community locations. This position will work collaboratively with internal and external partners to ensure the needs of young children and their families are being met with excellence.

This position has access to protected healthcare information (PHI) or confidential identifiable
information (CII), both paper and electronic, as necessary, to perform related job duties and
responsibilities.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
    • Provides individualized group special instruction to develop cognitive, social, communication, gross and fine motor skills for children ages birth to 3
    • Collaborates with the Early Intervention team, Family Resource Coordinators (FRCs), and Akin program staff on interdisciplinary IFSPs, goal setting, and case review
    • Maintains documentation of case records and ensure compliance with Part C and other policies
    • Communicates with medical providers, school districts, and other outside resources as needed
    • Engages and empowers parents in all individual and group sessions, providing training and support that allow them to meet the needs of their children
    • Other duties as assigned

    WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
    This job is performed in a professional office environment. The following list is representative of the work environment employees encounter while performing the essential functions of this job:
    • This position will cover southern King County, including: Auburn, Seattle, Burien, and Renton

    WORKING REMOTELY:

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field.
    • Washington State Teaching Certificate with Special Education endorsement.
    OR, have taken the following courses: Child Development, Evaluation/Assessment, Family Systems*, or Intervention/Curriculum*
    • Experience using all aspects of an electronic medical records system (e.g., Credible)
    • Experience and demonstrated ability to successfully work within a diverse cultural setting and provide culturally dynamic, equitable, and supportive services
    • Ability to pass Akin background check
    • Current certifications in Pediatric/Adult CPR, First Aid/AED, HIV/Bloodborne Pathogens
    *Experience may be substituted for coursework: At least 4 years of experience in providing early intervention may be used in lieu of completing Family Systems and Intervention/Curriculum

    PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:
    • Bilingual in English/Spanish highly desired

    SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

    The salary range for this position is $71,178-$99,653. The starting salary range for this position is $71,178-$78,291 DOE for external candidates. 

    Full-time employees will also receive 10 days of vacation leave each year, three Employee Appreciation Day each year, and will accrue one sick day per month (pro-rated for part-time employees). Employees will also enjoy 15 paid holidays throughout the calendar year.  We also offer EAP and mental health benefits.
