Volunteers of America (VOA) is a faith-based, nationwide nonprofit organization dedicated to helping those in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential. VOA is seeking a Moral Injury Intern  to work on research-related initiatives and to provide programmatic support on services and educational offerings. The person in this role will be an integral part of the Moral Injury department as well as the Intern 2025 cohort team.  This position offers a wonderful opportunity to learn about Moral Injury and recovery strategies, to develop communications and networking skills and to strengthen abilities in program development and administration capacity. The selected candidate will be flexible, self-directed, with an ability to work collaboratively in teams, have excellent writing and communication skills, good time management, self-awareness and an ability to ask for support with willingness to learn new areas.

This position extends the opportunity for part-time hours (up to 20 hours per week) and is fully Remote

The internship is unpaid, however, a stipend is provided  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research for the Shay Center that will strengthen programs and strategic approaches, such as best practices in online adult education or peer support strategies, or other co-selected topics
  • Update and maintain Shay Center’s online resources by adding the latest research, articles, and programs on the website, Zotero account and monthly newsletter
  • Provide narrative change and communications support, including Shay Center social media work, newsletter drafting and engaging an online community of practice
  • Give logistical and administrative support for Shay Center programs, including the online moral injury certificate program and in-person trainings
  • Draft Shay Center assets for programs and initiatives, including design work, writing content and editing documents
  • Collaborate with Shay Center staff on new ideas, initiatives and directions for moral injury-related work
  • Support designing and/or implementing initiatives and special projects

Qualifications:

Physical Capabilities:

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods

  • Applicants studying Psychology, Social Work, Education, Counseling, Religion/Theology, Therapy - or related fields in mental health, chaplaincy/spiritual care, or social services - are encouraged to apply
