540 is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to develop a data transformation and workflow solution for an impactful part of the U.S. Army. You will deploy and operate a replacement for a legacy financial system to the cloud, and innovate new cloud-first solutions for the U.S. Army’s data management ecosystem.
On the technical side, this role is responsible for the data pipeline cloud components, security, governance and overall successful delivery of working software. You will work with multiple teams on problems that require architectural thinking and programming skills to design the system. This role will also be responsible for communicating data design decisions to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels and putting in place practices and procedures to deliver a high-quality, tested, and secure product.
Location: Remote within the continental United States, East Coast working hours with some flexibility afforded. Occasional travel may be required (3-4x annually)
Citizenship & Clearance Requirement: per client requirements, must be a US Citizen with the ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance
Education Requirement: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or related engineering field (preferred)

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- 6+ years of related experience
- Well-versed in Python
- Experience building and managing data pipelines
- Experience consuming data via APIs
- Hands on experience with AWS cloud services
- Experience with GitLab
- Experience building dashboards using PowerBI and/or similar data analytics tools
- Experience working via the terminal / command line
- Hands on experience using Jira and Confluence
NICE TO HAVE SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
- Proficiency in Apache Spark
- Experience with AWS Glue and/or EMR
- AWS certifications
- CompTIA Security+ certification
- Experience maintaining data pipelines with tables containing over a billion rows / records
- Experience building, deploying and managing Qlik dashboards
- Experience working with DoD systems and data
