The Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) will provide direct patient care under the supervision of a licensed physical therapist. They will work with a diverse patient population of all ages, assessing individual needs and monitoring progress. The PTA will collaborate with team members from various disciplines to ensure holistic care that addresses both the physical and emotional needs of patients. All activities must comply with the regulations established by the Arkansas State Board of Physical Therapy, as well as with state and federal laws. Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate in Applied Science Degree in Physical Therapy.
  • One (1) year of PTA experience or new grad with clinical experience in an outpatient setting.
  • Current and valid licensure by the Arkansas State Medical Board as a Physical Therapist Assistant, or eligible to apply and obtain license within 30 days of hire.
  • Current BLS certification or must successfully obtain certification within the first 30 days of employment.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Strong background in the treatment of neurologic disorders.
  • Must possess good hand-eye coordination and demonstrate exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate with clinic staff, physicians, and the public.
  • Collaborative and teamwork skills.
  • Commitment to providing care in accordance with the philosophy and policies of the UAMS.
  • Must have normal communication sensory requirements.

​​Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of PTA experience.
  • LSVT BIG or PWR certified.


Additional Information:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Will work closely with the supervising physical therapist to implement therapeutic plans using techniques to promote the ability to move, reduce pain, restore function, and prevent disability in outpatient and SNF settings.
  • Provide daily treatments consisting of gait training, transfer training, balance training, endurance and strength training, functional mobility, and therapeutic exercise, and be willing to provide family/caregiver education.
  • Provide documentation to make sure that UAMS’ policies and procedures and HIPAA standards are being met when treating patients. 
  • Prepares and operates physical therapy equipment, including sanitizing, sterilizing, and/or disinfecting equipment.
  • Documents daily treatments and observations in patients’ progress notes and prepares monthly patient performance summaries as related to program goals and objectives and submits them to the physical therapist.
  • Conducts in-service training for new employees and other non-therapy staff as assigned by the physical therapist by demonstrating various treatment techniques, including exercise programs, massage, traction, or other therapy.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
