Job description

Our Team:

In the Foundations domain at VistaPrint, we develop the technology that powers the website's customer-facing capabilities. We manage the shared components and capabilities that are used throughout the VistaPrint site, such as a Design System, routing for all services, URL management for all user experiences, shared UI components, an experimentation framework, and the My Account section for our shoppers. Our goal is to help content creators build engaging marketing experiences using popular technologies such as React, Contentful, and our own next-generation page rendering platform. Each team can choose the technology that best suits their needs.

Our decision-making is data-driven, guided by customer feedback and insights. Each team collaborates closely with the product organization to develop a balanced roadmap that incorporates technology maintenance, innovation, and the delivery of incremental value.

What You Will Do:

As a Lead Software Engineer in the Foundations Domain, you’ll be expected to collaborate with multiple teams, understand the business domain, design solutions, and shape the technical direction without supervision.

Here are some examples so you can get an idea:

  • Guide junior team members in building a next-generation page rendering framework. This framework allows Product teams to launch page fragments and dynamic JavaScript modules independently, speeding up the delivery of new user experiences;
  • Guide peers in delivering projects by understanding requirements from stakeholders, setting team priorities, leading technical decisions, and pairing during development;
  • Help colleagues in the team grow by applying your skills and experience in collaboration;
  • Collaborate with technical leadership in other teams and guide collaboration within your own team;
  • Own and improve the services that define routing from customer-facing URLs to microservices and micro frontends owned by all Product teams in the organization;
  • Understand the content management needs of our internal clients, build services and tooling, and write documentation to meet those needs;
  • Pair with a passionate and engaging engineering team to build the new Vista platform. Help us set the new standard in how eCommerce sites are run.

Your Qualifications:

At Vista, we are striving to hire individuals that add new ideas and perspectives to our teams and enhance our culture. No matter your background or work experience, we strongly encourage you to apply—even if you feel that you don’t meet the exact requirements or have the same qualifications. You might be a great candidate for this or other opportunities.

  • Previous experience building applications using JavaScript/TypeScript and Node.js;
  • Significant knowledge about (micro)service-oriented architecture;
  • Previous background in collaborating with business stakeholders to understand their needs and working with your team to create a software solution from scratch;
  • Previous experience building software that is scalable, reliable, testable, and maintainable;
  • Excellent collaboration and the desire to work with a cross-cultural team.

Nice to Have:

  • Ability to provision and run infrastructure as code in AWS;
  • Knowledge in developing web UIs using React or similar frameworks in addition to foundational front-end technologies such as JS, HTML, and CSS;
  • Familiarity with making continuous integration and continuous delivery part of how we build software (we use Gitlab);
  • Understanding of object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithms;
  • Experiences in other languages such as Go, Python, or C#.
