WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

The Staff Accountant supports the Organization in managing, processing, and troubleshooting various financial accounts, transactions, and revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 for the company’s SaaS (Software as a Service) offerings. This role requires a deep understanding of revenue accounting principles, including performance obligations, variable consideration, and contract costs. The Staff Accountant will collaborate with sales, contracting, finance, and operational teams to ensure compliance with revenue recognition standards and will support internal and external reporting needs.

WHAT WILL YOU BE DOING?

  • Review and interpret customer contracts and sales agreements to ensure accurate revenue recognition in accordance with ASC 606 guidelines.
  • Identify performance obligations, transaction prices, and contract costs in customer agreements.
  • Analyze variable considerations (e.g., discounts, rebates, or penalties) and determine it's impact on revenue recognition.
  • Enter contractual details into MAXIO for revenue recognition, billing, and statistical analysis.  Ensure timely and accurate issuance of invoices to customers and collections.
  • Maintain the MAXIO environment to ensure revenue transactions are accurately recorded in the general ledger in accordance with GAAP.
  • Generate monthly invoices for customers.
  • Process incoming and automatic customer payments.
  • Resolve collection issues, process customer claims of invoice payment, chargebacks, returns, and bad checks.
  • Process credit and rebill requests ensuring proper approval documentation is in place.
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and annual close procedures for revenue, including preparation of revenue-related journal entries, reconciliations, and reports.
  • Prepare and analyze monthly revenue reports and provide explanations for significant variances to leadership.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal and external financial statements related to revenue and deferred revenue balances.
  • Assist in fulfilling requests for the annual external audit.
  • Contribute to the month-end close process in reconciliation of accounts, and posting of monthly journal entries.

 WHAT DO YOU NEED?

  •  Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field. 
  • Experience: 3-5 years of accounting experience, with at least 2 years focused on revenue accounting and ASC 606 in a SaaS or technology environment.
  • Knowledge of MAXIO, SaaSOptics, Chargify, or similar billing software.
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems (Sage Intacct, NetSuite, Oracle, SAP).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience with pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and other analytical formulas and tools.

  • Knowledge of sales tax law and compliance within the SaaS industry.
  • Knowledge of SaaS key performance indicators and financial planning and analysis methodologies.
