Job description

The IT Technician role is responsible for maintaining IT assets for long-term care, affordable housing, and middle market communities and aiding end-users in effectively carrying out their job duties.

Essential Functions Statement(s)

  • Provide technical support to end-users, encompassing tasks such as hardware setup, software installation, user training and troubleshooting, etc.
  • Provide hardware and cabling support for network equipment.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment/software.
  • Evaluate end-users’ specific computer needs and implements necessary adjustments.
  • Assists with establishing network and printer connections. 
  • Install specified software packages such as operating systems, Microsoft Suite, and anti-virus software.
  • Replace and/or updates defective, outdated, or inadequate software packages. 
  • Research solutions to re-occurring issues. 
  • Maintain computer/network inventory.
  • Engage with and assist contracted service personnel in installation of hardware/repairs as needed.
  • Participate in the On-Call phone line weekly rotation with the other IT technicians.
  • Consult with IT Services regarding budget requirements for purchase of equipment, software, etc. 
  • Attend department meetings as assigned and communicate regularly with other IT staff members. 
  • Perform all other duties as assigned or directed.

Skills & Abilities

Education

  • Associate degree (two-year college or technical school) or equivalent experience: Required

Experience

  • Two (2) or more years of related experience

Computer Skills

  • Strong knowledge of operating systems and various types of applications. Microsoft Office Suite, Workday, and PointClickCare knowledge highly desirable.

Certifications & Licenses

  • Additional IT training helpful, continuing education in IT-related areas recommended; Must obtain and maintain mandatory, state, federal requirements and certifications for practice or occupation 

Other Requirements

  • Must have strong oral and written communication skills; Must have strong interpersonal skills and a high degree of patience, especially in working with end-users; Must have demonstrated deductive reasoning and analytical skills; Must be able to utilize various hand and power tools, including wire termination equipment; Must be able to adhere to all terms and conditions set forth in the United Church Homes Employee Handbook
