Responsibilities

The Director of Interconnection & Transmission is generally responsible for understanding and driving implementation of interconnection and related transmission procedures in selected US regional / ISO power markets as they apply to renewable generation and battery energy storage systems. Understanding of power and capacity marketing and congestion management / avoidance is a plus.

  • Assembly and submission of interconnection requests and modifications in support of new and evolving development opportunities.
  • Review and comment on studies in a timely manner.
  • Negotiation of interconnection agreements.
  • Fulfillment of interconnection agreement milestones. Management of consultants to provide additional resources and expertise as needed including critical review and alignment of consulting efforts with internal engineering focus and direction.
  • Case-by-case responsibilities also include project specific budget and security posting management and advocacy in support of the interconnection function, due diligence reporting for acquisition candidates, support of project sale and financing requirements, support of the transition from development through execution to operations and support of proposals to offtakers.
  • The Interconnection Director’s primary customer is the project development team to provide timely and cost-effective interconnection and technical solutions to fulfill market requirements for PV and BESS projects along with support of responses to requests for proposals and bi-lateral offtake agreement proposals and arrangements to enable multiple offtake agreements through shared facility agreements and, other duties assigned by Management.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in power with 7-10 years of experience in large scale renewable generation (200 MW or larger).
  • Minimum of 7 years of professional large generator interconnection related experience.
  • Minimum of 7 years of Transmission planning experience.
  • Demonstrated history of consistently sourcing and advancing projects through various stages of development to start of construction.
  • Strong cross-functional fluency in interconnection tariff procedures and requirements and electrical engineering.
  • Project finance, contracts, utility interconnection, construction, and operations experience a plus.
  • Strong communication and people skills contributing to a strong team player approach and individual initiative is required: the candidate should be a hands-on creative problem solver.
  • Advanced technical knowledge (e.g., familiarity with renewable technologies, power markets, legislation, regulatory issues).
  • Expertise using Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word) for reporting/presentations.
  • Willingness and ability to travel if required by projects.
