Job description

The Vacancy

The Water Research Centre (WRc), an RSK Group company, are looking for a Head of Climate and Sustainability, with expertise in ESG, to work full time as part of the highly successful WRc Management Consulting team.

This is a hybrid role with a requirement to attend one of our offices at least 1 day per week (Swindon, Manchester or Stirling) and meet clients as required, both in the UK and internationally.

Responsibilities include:

  • Lead the continuous improvement of our internal ESG management system in collaboration with colleagues from our SHEQ team.
  • Assist with developing appropriate external communications regarding the company’s ESG strategy and progress.
  • Lead the Climate and Sustainability business development and marketing activities, working with the wider WRc and RSK Business Development and Marketing teams to identify, prioritise and win work.
  • Represent the company in regulatory forums and sustainability advocacy groups to stay ahead of policy shifts and emerging requirements such as evolving ESG regulations, reporting standards, and sustainability frameworks
  • Where required, lead, manage and support project delivery to ensure on time, on-budget and high-quality services and products.
  • Lead and continue to grow and manage the Climate and Sustainability team, in line with the Management Consulting directorate and WRc growth plans. This includes identifying and guiding the team on emerging challenges and opportunities in sustainability.


Person specification:

  • A degree or vocational qualification in science, engineering, business and/or sustainability.
  • Previous proven experience in sustainability, climate science, ESG or corporate compliance and governance.
  • Regulated water experience (UK and/or International).
  • Demonstrable experience in working with multiple stakeholders to successfully deliver action plans.
  • Ability to influence at senior levels across WRc, RSK and with clients.
