Job description

Mechanical/Chemical Engineer - Flexible location - £51,000 to £60,000

National Gas has an exciting and important role in net zero and in leading a fair energy transition for the UK. We will do this by developing the green gas system of tomorrow, while delivering the natural gas needs of today.

About the role:

We're seeking a Mechanical/Chemical Engineer to play a crucial role in managing asset modifications and ensuring system integrity. In this position, you'll progress modifications to closure, review integrity data, and close out low-risk modifications, all while driving awareness and maintaining the health of the change management system.

Your role will involve collaborating with delivery teams to advance modifications, holding sessions to guide stakeholders through processes, and providing technical advice to initiators. You’ll also review submitted integrity information, resolve overdue or stalled modifications, and ensure system updates align with authorised personnel. A key part of your work will include supporting system administrators and driving continuous improvements to the change management system and processes.

If you’re an organised and proactive professional with a passion for technical excellence and process optimisation, we’d love to hear from you. Join us in ensuring operational integrity and driving change management success.

The role location is flexible but with an expectation to come to an office (mainly Warwick) for meetings or operational sites on average 2 days a week, so you will need a current full UK driving licence.

What we're looking for:

Essential -

  • Degree (or equivalent) in mechanical or chemical engineering
  • Experience in delivering projects
  • Experience in process or mechanical design
  • Awareness of integrity risks
  • Full UK car driving licence

Desirable -

  • Chartered engineer status
  • Previous change management experience
  • Experience in an operational/engineering capacity in a gas transmission or high hazard environment

What we can offer you:

Annual bonus of up to 6% based on personal and company performance

26 days’ holiday plus statutory holidays - option available to buy extra holiday days

Generous double-match pension scheme - for every £1 you put in, we'll add £2 (max company contribution 12%)

Flexible benefit scheme, including private healthcare, dental insurance, technology plans and more

Financial protection with 10x salary death in service and financial support if you're unable to work due to long term illness or injury

Excellent family friendly provisions - maternity/paternity/adoption/shared parental leave

Career progression, professional training and development - including access to LinkedIn Learning

Employee assistance programme offering free confidential professional counselling 24/7

Financial support to help you cover the cost of professional membership subscriptions
