In this role, you will work with a team of developers to build WordPress sites that deliver support to tech founders and startups. We’re looking for someone with extensive experience in creating, configuring and maintaining WordPress sites from start to finish. We look forward to chatting about your programming and visual skills to keep our sites professional and delightful. You’ll be involved end-to-end from wireframes to development, deployment and maintenance.

On a typical day as a Senior Lead WordPress Engineer, you will:

• Lead the development of WordPress sites, setting standards for quality and efficiency.
• Collaborate with your team to implement effective, responsive and accessible websites.
• Evaluate and select WordPress themes, plugins, and tools, making modifications as necessary and setting standards across the team.
• Ensure the team follows best practices for security, scalability, and performance.
• Analyze and address potential security vulnerabilities identified in periodic security scans, including plugin updates, misconfigurations, and custom code adjustments, to ensure WordPress websites remain secure and compliant.
• Manage project deliverables, and communication with the project manager while coaching team members on the same.
• Troubleshoot complex issues, guide the team in debugging and problem-solving, and ensure smooth deployments.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to improve your team’s skills and performance.
  
  
  

Desired profile

• 5+ years developing end-to-end WordPress sites
• Proven experience in successfully leading and running a development team:
• Multiple people reporting to you regarding their technical tasks
• Previous experience making technical decisions, resolving technical and security issues
• Advanced skills in PHP/WordPress back-end development, including plugin customization and debugging
• Significant experience working full-time in a high-quality agency or outsourcing company that specializes in WordPress sites
• Developed at least 10 (and hopefully many more) high-quality WordPress sites
• Able to manage workflow and deliver to deadlines and quality requirements
• Experience working with WordPress builders (Elementor, DIVI, or WPBakery)
• Expert at choosing, managing, modifying, and debugging WordPress plugins
• Advanced CSS3, and HTML skills
• Basic MySQL database experience in WordPress context such as creating, exporting, importing, and dropping tables
• Expert at WordPress site deployment (SFTP, DNS, email setup, cPanel, SSL certificates)
• Experience building user interfaces for websites and/or web applications
• Comfortable working with debugging tools like Firebug, Chrome Inspector, etc.
• Ability to understand CSS changes and their ramifications to ensure consistent style across platforms and browsers
• Ability to convert comprehensive layouts and wireframes into working HTML pages
