About Position 

Join our Risk team, where you’ll play a critical role in maintaining the fraud risk of our seamless checkout process. We believe in offering our customers a frictionless experience—during checkout, they only need to provide an email and phone number to instantly access a credit account and have their payments underwritten. It’s fast, efficient, and convenient, but it comes with the challenge of ensuring that fraud is detected and prevented in real time. 

As an Analyst focusing on fraud, you will play a critical role in combating fraud within the Paidy payment ecosystem making use of various data points from consumer behavior to merchant characteristics and more. On top of this very important task, you will also work with various stakeholders from the business to engineering teams taking part in Paidy product development processes.

Key Role and Responsibilities

Daily Tasks

  • Develop and maintain the fraud detection systems, business rules, models, tooling and reportings that the fraud team owns
  • Work closely with the fraud operation/operation members to investigate/manage the fraud cases

Strategy & Operations

  • Setting up comprehensive fraud prevention strategies aligned with company risk appetite
  • Setting and maintaining fraud KPIs, ensure they remain within acceptable thresholds
  • Monitor fraud trends and patterns to proactively adjust strategies
  • Balance fraud prevention with customer experience and acceptance rates
  • Establish and optimize fraud operation processes and guidelines

Cross-functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with the Credit Risk team to ensure aligned risk management approaches
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, Sales, Customer Service and Operation teams to implement fraud prevention and operation solutions
  • Partner with Legal and Compliance teams to ensure adherence to relevant regulations
  • Regular reporting to senior management on fraud performance and initiatives

Skills and Requirements

  • 3+ years of experience in one or multiple of the following areas: Fraud prevention/ Risk management/ Fraud operation/ Spam management/ Consumer behavior analysis
  • Previous experience in a data science or analytics role, particularly in fraud detection, financial services, or e-commerce environments would be a huge plus
  • Proven track record in managing fraud/ scam/ spam in either of the following industry: Financial services/ E-Commerce/ Social media industry/ Credit card industry, preferably in BNPL or payments industry
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of machine learning and data science applications in fraud prevention is a huge plus
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and Japanese, with the ability to present complex ideas clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, or similar) for reporting insights would be a plus.
  • A proactive mindset and a passion for leveraging data to drive business decisions and improve fraud prevention strategies.
  • Ability to deliver under pressure and demonstrate a sense of urgency when required.
