We offer unique opportunities for smart, hands-on Software Development Engineers with the expertise and passion to solve difficult problems in distributed, public cloud services. This team focuses on product development for Oracle Health, while building out a complete platform supporting modernized applications.

The services we build will be central to the success of Oracle Health to support our customers assess market viability of new treatments, bring these treatments to market, and ensure the overall long-term wellness and safety of patients world-wide. We are looking for hands-on engineers with expertise and passion in solving difficult problems in all areas of software engineering: distributed systems, identity, security, observability, and user experience.

Responsibilities

As a Senior Principal Software Engineer, you will be responsible for transforming the requirements from cross functional team into technical design specifications, designing, building and operating applications, components and services that will range from big data technologies, distributed computing, storage replication to highly efficient data planes, to serve life science customers and advance patient care. You will be responsible for building control plane components for public cloud services.

You will work on most projects and tasks independently and extend technical leadership to development teams. You will have the opportunity to work on both architecturally broad and deep software systems engineering problems. You will own development of new components and features, from initial concepts through design, implementation, test, and operation. You will be responsible for ensuring that you and your team are delivering high quality code, following good software development lifecycle processes and driving positive change your development team. Your work will be used by some of the biggest companies in the world, impacting millions of patients in our goal to achieve better health outcomes for everyone. You will also be a leader on your team, coaching and growing your junior peers in best practices and engineering excellence

You must be technically strong and get a lot done. You can balance speed and quality with iteration and incremental improvements. You’ve made life easier for other developers and have motivated your teams to make both process and service improvements with your ability to automate and instrument.

Responsibilities include:

  • High level system design, writing architectural documentation and driving engineering peer reviews to hands-on prototyping, code reviews and project bootstrapping.
  • Enable development teams by driving design of major service components, working with engineering managers and TPMs, and providing direct guidance to more junior team members.
  • Work with cross-functional team members from Architecture, Product Strategy & Development, QA, Support & Services, and other Central teams to architect, design & implement multiple products (software and/or solutions).
  • Foster good software engineering practices and drive high quality code standards including code reviews, static code analysis and test automation across the organization.
  • Lead the team in delivering and managing code in production at scale with high levels of confidence by leveraging agile methods, operational excellence standards such as telemetry, metrics and on-call rotations.
  • Collaborate with the global development & quality assurance team to define & meet project milestones.


Qualifications

  • BS or MS degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering (MS preferred)
  • 10+ years’ experience in design & implementation of complex software development environment involving distributed service.
  • Deep understanding of public cloud services.
  • Proven experience in designing and developing reliable, scalable software architecture and design.
  • Development experience in a modern programming language, such as Java and C++
  • Deep understanding of object-oriented design and SDK development, specifically within a cloud environment
  • Experience working closely with leadership, architects, product and program managers to deliver product features on time and with high quality.
  • Good knowledge of data structures, algorithms, operating systems, and distributed systems fundamentals.
  • Working familiarity with networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP) and standard network architectures.
  • Good understanding of Linux, Oracle databases, NoSQL systems, storage and distributed persistence technologies.
  • Experience working with healthcare systems or medical data is a plus
  • Experience working with Identity and access management in cloud is a plus.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience developing services on a public cloud platform (e.g., AWS, Azure)
  • Experience driving security reviews, documentation, UX reviews, and working with Product Managers
  • Experience and understanding of multi-AD/AZ and regional data centers
  • Building continuous integration/deployment pipelines with robust automated testing and deployment schedules
  • FedRAMP, PCI DSS, or similar compliance and auditing experience
  • Expertise in applying threat modeling or other risk identification techniques to develop security solutions
