  • JOB SUMMARY/PURPOSE
    • Works closely with site Administration, CEO and Medical Staff Leadership to support activities of the Medical Staff. Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements specific to medical staff, credentialing and recredentialing all practitioners with privileges at initial appointment and each reappointment. Maintains database, provides assistance to the SHS Credentialing Services, arranges and attends hospital/medical staff committee meetings and regional meetings, provide orientation for new medical staff members, provides executive level secretarial support for the administrative offices, and participates in professional organizations.
  • DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION
    • The Medical Staff Office provides services to both internal and external customers including health care providers, contract agencies, administration, hospital staff, management and community members. The primary scope of service for this department is patient safety, by ensuring appropriate and thorough credentialing and re-credentialing of all privileged providers at the facility. The department facilitates communications and reporting between the medical staff organization and administration and between departments and sections of the medical staff to ensure the barriers to provision of high quality medical care are addressed. The Medical Staff Office is responsible for facilitating updates to Medical Staff Bylaws and applicable administrative documents, applying regulatory agency standards and State and Federal requirements.
  • EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION/QUALIFICATIONS
    • High School diploma or equivalent required. Associate’s Degree in a related field preferred.
    • Two (2) years previous experience in a similar position in a hospital/medical or credentialing office and/or providing administrative support required.
    • Current Certified Professional Medical Staff Manager (CPMSM) certification or equivalent credentials recognized by the National Association of Medical Staff Services preferred.
  • KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
    • Medical Staff Services - Knowledge of Medical Staff Bylaws, credentialing activities, and accrediting agency guidelines. Knowledge of legal requirements (including state and federal laws) related to Medical Staff activities and reporting.
    • Communication - Effective written and oral communication skills to explain complex issues, exchange information between team members, and tactfully discuss issues. Ability to perform group presentations and listen to and understand complex information and ideas.
    • Quality Control - Knowledge of medical practice, quality management techniques, treatment methodology, data collection techniques and classification systems. Ability to evaluate quality or performance. Skilled in patient care assessment and data collection, including statistical applications.
    • Conflict resolution - Ability to proactively resolve conflicts in a positive and constructive manner. Possess the knowledge and skills to handle complaints, settle disputes, and negotiate with others to reach mutually beneficial decisions.
    • Computer Literacy - Knowledge of electronic equipment, computer hardware and software. Ability to operate applications, enter data, and manipulate and process information. Proficiency in computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and information systems.
    • Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
