Job description

Status: Part Time, Non Exempt, 25 - 30 hours per week for 1 - 2 years.

Location: Remote with occasional travel for large meetings.

Summary of Principal Responsibilities:

The American Friends Service Committee Grant Assistant Intern is an opportunity to develop and refine grant seeking skills while working to create social justice and peace.

The Grant Assistant Intern will collaborate with the Grants Unit of the AFSC Development Department. Through various department duties and special projects, interns will gain exposure to the operations of an international non-profit, connect with others working in the field of social justice, and accomplish their learning objectives in a supportive environment. The Assistantship is temporary and will consist of approximately 25 - 30 hours per week during traditional business hours, Monday through Friday.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:  The key responsibilities of the Grant Assistant Intern include the following:

  1. Work with the Grant Coordinator to develop tools and strategies to increase grant funding .
  2. Support reconciliation of various grant and financial documents.
  3. Assist with project planning, management, tracking, and implementation.
  4. Assist with grant management processes and administrative duties.
  5. Develop knowledge of assigned AFSC program.
  6. Conduct prospect research to include research of institutional supporters with interests in AFSC program areas and creating prospect profiles.
  7. Assist in meeting funder reporting/compliance requirements.
  8. Create grant and program organizing tools.
  9. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  High School degree or equivalent preferred.

Experience

  1. Excellent communication, writing, and research skills preferred.
  2. Ability to see the connection between fundraising work and field work in support of the mission of AFSC
  3. Strong organizational and project management skills

Other Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Ability to work independently and be proactive.
  2. Must be detail-oriented with strong communication and analyzing skills.
  3. Ability to work independently and be proactive.

  5. Ability to work well under pressure and adapt easily to changing situations and priorities.
  6. Proficient with Microsoft Word or Excel.
  7. Experience working/volunteering in the non-profit sector preferred but not required

Compensation:  $18 per hour – There are no medical, dental, or life insurance benefits, short-term or long-term insurance benefits with this position. AFSC does participate in unemployment, worker’s compensation, and social security.
