About the role....

The Remote Sensing intern will be responsible for imagery collection and processing from UAV’s, Satellite, and other sources. This position will be responsible for the collection of imagery from research trials from across the US over the summer. The position will also be responsible for the organization and processing of the imagery after acquisition. This job is located in West Lafayette, Indiana.

As Remote Sensing Intern, you will…

• Setup and conduct flight plan across multiple research trail locations

• Pilot a UAV (part 107 license needed)

• Create and maintain flight data logs and documentation

• Operate and acquire data from multiple sensor modalities

• Use processing software to convert raw imagery into Orthomosaics

• Create plot boundaries from imagery, maps, etc. and extract plot level data

• Troubleshoot issues as they arise

• Travel to fields across the US, often requiring multiple days on the road to acquire data

• Work with key stakeholders to understand what types of sensor data needs to be acquired and when to enable desired analysis.

You Bring…

· Working toward a degree in UAS, ABE, Remote Sensing, Agronomy, or related discipline

· Hold a valid part 107 FAA license

· Good operational working knowledge of UAV’s and multiple sensor modalities (RGB, LiDAR, Hyperspectral, etc.)

· Experience with flight planning and imagery processing software

· Ability to travel with Inari personnel to field trial location across the US (might include overnight trips)

· A valid driver’s license and reliable personal vehicle that is able to transport equipment (drone, base station, etc.).

· Experience in small plot field testing is desirable

· Working knowledge of GIS software (QGIS, ArcGIS, etc.) is desirable

· Understanding of vegetation indices (e.g., NDVI) and their agricultural applications is a plus.

· Ability to work both independently and deliver on responsibilities within a highly collaborative environment.

· Ability to effectively communicate with a diverse range of individuals and audiences.

· A strong sense of purpose and drive to develop unique, high impact solutions.

· Adaptability and enthusiasm for new challenges, innate curiosity, and a passion for learning.
