Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Identify, analyze, monitor and suggest actions for assigned clinical programs, products and services that materially contribute to the profitability, growth and productivity of the department and the company.  Responsible for recommending financial and non-financial strategic alternatives and developing and maintaining operational plans.

  • Oversee the identification, analysis and delivery of information and research solutions to leadership, management and staff teams for strategic and business unit initiatives and product development projects.  Responsible for managing the evaluation, selection and analysis of information about potential solutions, technologies, competitive market analyses and services.

  • Manages the research, development and implementation of clinical programs, products and services. Leads a cross-functional teams through all phases of the product and project lifecycle. Conducts  sessions to document business requirements, application needs, functionality, and user requirements.  Is the primary liaison between functional work areas to develop consensus on product and project deliverables and monitor timeline(s) as required. Works through problem areas and assists with product or project implementation.

  • Manager is the subject matter expect (SME) for clinical programs, products and services.  Providing day-to-day management and leadership of business, technology and marketing issues and deliverables affecting clinical programs, products and services within the lifecycle process, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.

  • Effectively manages the assets, tools, and processes necessary to achieve business objectives by leveraging advanced analyses, evaluation, planning and organizational skills/tools.  Provide recommendations for the acquisition/development or enhancement of equipment and systems necessary to support the business in an efficient and quality manner.

  • Expert in retrieval of information from a variety of sources, including but not limited to proprietary on-line databases, Internet, wire services and competitive market sources.  Utilize information retrieved to conduct research and analysis to derive implications from data and present results and information to leadership, product and project sponsor and teams and to oversee development of action plan(s).  

  • Applies advanced analytics to solve common business problems. This involves providing constructive suggestions to analytics and reporting, formulating business requirements, designing logic and rules, and preparing technical/statistical specifications for development or enhancement of products and services;

  • Manages daily operations of health data analyst team to: executes data queries, data manipulation, and data preparation for analysis; performs statistical analysis; prepares interactive visualizations; identifies and prevents erroneous reporting and exercises problem solving skills;

  • Develops and implements methodologies, including but not limited to predictive modeling, risk stratification, and clinical program evaluation and ROI analyses; ability to draw from expertise in econometrics or biostatistics;

  • Integrates and summarizes pharmacy (including benefits, formulary and eligibility), medical, laboratory, and other data sets from individual claim-level data sets to patient-level data sets for analyses;

  • Prepares clear, concise summary interpretation of results for management or client presentation, marketing material, and/or manuscripts for publication. Includes report development and construction of data visualization;

  • Effectively communicates (written and oral) technical and statistical findings with peers and management. Simplifies complex statistical approaches for broad audiences. Seeks areas to improve programming efficiencies within the department using complex macros. Serves as the SME for the department’s clinical data analytics needs, as well as, mentor to junior health data analysts;

  • Meets predetermined project deadlines and manages work on multiple research projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities 

Manages team of Health Data Analysts, Clinical Solutions Managers, and other support staff in the Clinical Solutions department. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supports and enforces all company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner, taking corrective action whenever necessary.

Client Responsibilities

This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written).  One must: respond promptly to client needs; solicit client feedback to improve service; respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; meet commitments to clients; manage difficult or emotional client situations.

Education and/or Experience                                            

Bachelor’s degree in one of the following focuses:  statistics, epidemiology, computer sciences (or equivalent combination of education and experience) along with strong quantitative skills in a health-related discipline; 10+ years of related experience in areas of outcomes research, biostatistics or health data analysis or equivalent experience in statistics with pharmaceutical or public health background.   Three (3) years’ supervisory experience required.  Four (4) years of MedImpact experience plus an appropriate external leadership training program in combination with an internal mentorship with a seasoned leader (Director or above) that must be completed within 12 months in the new position can be substituted for the required supervisory experience. 

Computer Skills

Extensive experience using Stastical Analysis Systems (SAS) (advanced level) and Microsoft applications. Recognized as an industry leader in outcomes research, quality measurement, and SAS programming.

Other Skills and Abilities                                                    

  • Possess a broad and in-depth understanding of PBM and common external data (e.g., claims, member eligibility, benefits, medical claims, lab, e-prescribing, clinical program, etc.)

  • Technical background in advanced analytic methods and statistical approaches (e.g., predictive analytics)

  • Thorough knowledge of features included in various applications of advanced analytic tools (e.g., SAS) that would benefit the organization

  • Ability to learn new analytic and methodological concepts and directly apply them to his and other functional areas

  • Track record of executing development and implementation of advanced analytic visualization

  • Proven track record of strong leadership competencies

Reasoning Ability                                                    

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Mathematical Skills                                                 

Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations.  Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis.

Language Skills                                           

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Work Environment

This position has been identified as a remote based role.

Working Hours

This is an exempt level position requiring one to work the hours needed to get the job done.  Therefore one must have the flexibility to work beyond traditional hours and be able to work nights, weekends or on holidays as required.  This may be changed from time to time to meet the needs of the business.  Typical core business hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm.

This position requires no travel however attendance maybe required at various local conferences and meetings.
