Under the direction of the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs this position provides leadership, supervision and administration for instructional program. In keeping with the University’s belief that serving as a Faculty Member can be a very rewarding and challenging experience, the Occupational Therapy Director establishes and maintains an environment that allows faculty, students and staff to flourish. This leader ensures academic programs offer students innovative and effective learning methodologies, opportunities for the development of writing and research skills, the nurturing of critical thinking skills, and character and professional development.

The overarching goal for the Director is to provide an atmosphere where students are encouraged to set high academic expectations for themselves and reach their potential for intellectual, emotional and spiritual development. Facilitate a positive connection between each student and the University of the Cumberlands

Promote service to the university, profession, and community Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership in the formulation, development and fulfillment of Departmental goals
  • Serves as a moral, ethical, and professional model, in class and in the community
  • In collaboration with the Provost, VPAA, and Vice President of Academic Compliance, leads all programmatic accreditation efforts with ACOTE (Accreditation Council for Occupational Therapy Education)
  • Coordinates program design, assessment, technology integration, and curriculum development that aligns with institutional and program accreditation
  • Assumes responsibility for recruitment, credentialing, and making hiring recommendations to Academic Affairs
  • Developing, evaluating, and managing expectations of faculty and/or staff
  • Ensures effective orientation, training, mentoring, and evaluation of faculty and/or staff that contributes to a positive faculty and student experience
  • Develops and manages program's operating budget each year
  • Manages department course rotations, assignments, and schedules
  • Supervise and coordinate student clinical rotations and sites
  • Advises students on course progress
  • Works collaboratively and successfully with colleagues and university administration

Job Requirements:

Required skills:

  • Proven experience in teaching and leading
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Must be able to relate to and communicate with diverse students, faculty, staff, and external communities
  • Willingness to adopt and support a mindset that focuses on student success

Education and training:

  • Terminal degree or related experience closely tied to academic program
  • Academic leadership experience
  • Should be able to teach a variety of departmental course offerings
  • Record of professional and scholarly productivity

Additional duties:

  • May be asked to complete other duties as requested by the Vice President for Academic Affairs
  • Serve on appropriate University committees
