About the Position

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Virtual Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to join our outpatient oncology team. This role involves providing high-quality, patient-centered care through virtual platforms while actively contributing to the practice's quality improvement and innovation efforts. The ideal candidate is a skilled clinician who thrives in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment and is committed to advancing patient outcomes and practice excellence. 

FUNCTION:  

  • The APP will provide infusion coverage virtually to any clinic that do not have onsite provider. 

  • Provide virtual APP lead initiative type visits to clinics without an on-site Clinic APP.  

  • Assist with any Clinic APP visit overflow.  

  • Provide Virtual Urgent Care visits  

  • Will be a part of the provider call rotation after credentialing is complete. 

  • All scheduling will be coordinated by the Clinical Director or APP Manager.

Requirements:

 

  • Provide virtual consultations, follow-ups, and patient education to individuals undergoing oncology treatment. 

  • Perform assessments, develop treatment plans, and manage oncology-related symptoms in collaboration with the oncology team. 

  • Prescribe medications and therapies as appropriate within scope of practice. 

  • Monitor patient progress and modify care plans as necessary to achieve optimal outcomes. 

  • Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories. 

  • Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; interpreting test results. 

  • Documents patient care services by charting in patient and department records 

  • Assess and treat assigned patients by the physician either independently (under supervision) or jointly with the physician.   

  • Participates in the appropriate on-call rotation is designated by Clinical Director.  

Patient and Family Support: 

  • Address patient concerns, answer questions, and provide emotional support during virtual interactions. 

  • Educate patients and families about treatment plans, side effect management, and survivorship care. 

Quality Initiatives: 

  • Actively participate in APP-led quality improvement projects to enhance clinical care and operational efficiency. 

  • Identify opportunities for innovation in virtual care delivery and contribute to developing and implementing solutions. 

  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to evaluate and improve patient care outcomes through data collection and analysis. 

Team Collaboration: 

  • Work closely with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless coordination of care. 

  • Attend and contribute to virtual team meetings, case conferences, and educational sessions. 

Documentation and Compliance: 

  • Maintain accurate and timely electronic health records (EHR) in compliance with organizational and regulatory standards. 

  • Adhere to protocols, policies, and evidence-based guidelines for oncology care. 

Other functions:  

  • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations. 

  • Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols. 

  • Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management of needed actions. 

  • Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies. 

  • Develops health care team staff by providing information and educational opportunities. 

  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. 

  • Any other tasks or duties as assigned by the Medical Officer or Practice Management.

EDUCATION:

  •  Nurse Practitioner: Masters of Science – Nursing
  •  Successful completion of an approved Acute Care nurse practitioner program.
  •  Acute Care certification required 

EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum two years of clinical nursing plus two years of nurse practitioner experience.

• Minimum one year in an oncology department/clinic

• Licensed ANP or FNP.

• Must be currently licensed as a registered nurse. Because of the nature of responsibilities, it is preferable to have experience in counseling and teaching and have a master's degree.

KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of professional nursing theory, practices and regulations to give and evaluate patient care.

• Knowledge of how to use medical equipment and instruments to administer patient care

• Knowledge of oncology-related medical terminology

• Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish/maintain a safe work environment

• Knowledge of the unique technical and human factors found when working in the specific field of  oncology

SKILLS:

• Skill in applying and modifying the principles, methods and techniques of professional nursing to provide ongoing patient care.

• Skill in taking medical histories to assess medical condition and interpret findings

• Skill in the use of computer software application relevant to job specific tasks

• Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with other employees, patients, organizations, and the public

• Perform procedures such as Bone Marrow Biopsies.

ABILITIES:

• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

• Ability to maintain quality control standards

• Ability to communicate clearly with clinic staff, patients and public

• Ability to interpret, adapt and apply clinic guidelines and procedures

• Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with patients and families

• Ability to maintain patient confidentiality

ENVIRONMENTAL/WORKING CONDITIONS:

Combination of exam rooms and medical offices. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, blood-borne pathogens, physical hazards (e.g., needle pricks, etc.), ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to an oncology clinic environment

PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS:

Requires, standing, sitting, walking, bending, stooping, twisting. Requires full range of motion, manual dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. May require helping lift/transfer patients. Requires ability to deal with stress from dealing with multiple tasks, irregular hours, tense patients, and unexpected emergencies
