If so, the Department of Health and Human Sciences Extension and Outreach with Iowa State University is seeking qualified candidates for a position with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach (ISUEO) AnswerLine! This is a part-time position (20 hours/week) and will be hired as a Human Sciences Extension Specialist II.
This position will:
Answer home and family-related questions from the general public in Iowa and Minnesota, agencies, and businesses on the toll-free telephone line, email, and Ask Extension website with research-based information.
Organize and update existing files by reading current, research-based articles and/or conferring with campus specialists.
Record call data in iCarol computer database.
Assist in marketing the toll-free line via media sources and personal contacts.
Assist in the recruitment and training of temporary staff.
Over 17,000 calls and emails are handled yearly; almost 60 percent of the calls are related to food and nutrition.
This position will require maintaining high professional standards in interacting with the public. This position requires excellent communication and writing skills for writing blogs and social media posts. Travel will be required to attend conferences and trainings and to market the hotline.
The successful candidate will have good organizational, written, and interpersonal communication skills and be proficient in computers. Excellent active listening skills and the ability to determine appropriate human service resources that would benefit clients are needed to be successful in this position. The position will need the ability to work in a team environment. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of a call center environment and direct knowledge of utilizing database systems, preferably iCarol.
This is a fixed term position with an end date of 6/30/2026, with the opportunity for renewal.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an on-going basis without sponsorship.
