Position at Ziff Davis

The VP, Global Payroll will lead and manage all aspects of payroll for Ziff Davis’ employees across the globe (currently approximately 4,000 employees). As the subject matter expert for all payroll matters you will share expertise on complex issues and provide hands-on execution of domestic and international payroll services.  
The ideal candidate is experienced in Global Payroll Operations and has a passion for creating innovative payroll solutions. The candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing an enhanced corporate and local payroll strategy, planning and communications for the payroll function, and related services. 
This position will be a leader in the corporate human resources team and foster relationships with senior internal stakeholders by establishing and maintaining exceptional business relationships and working collaboratively with other corporate and country level teams including HR, Legal, Tax, Finance, Treasury, and Employee Benefits. 
The candidate is expected to run day to day payroll operations, support new and existing pay programs (local and global), manage vendor contracts and relationships, and drive process standardization, automation, and improvement in the controls for payroll globally while ensuring process efficiency and effectiveness. The position will also develop and implement new  initiatives including exploring and managing the implementation of 3rd party vendors to ensure payroll accuracy and compliance in multiple countries. Finally, this position will be responsible for the coaching, mentoring, and leadership of the direct and indirect team of individuals and managers that provide the day-to-day payroll support.

The VP, Global Payroll will:
  • Develop and implement an enhanced corporate and local payroll strategy
  • Lead our new Global Payroll team with an integrated vision to support Ziff Davis’ mission with a secure, accurate and compliant global payroll service offering
  • Partner with our Employment Tax, Employment Law, Stock Administration and Global HR  organizations to ensure compliant and accurate reporting, and support global payroll tax and other audits, SOX controls, special programs, mobility programs, GDPR and other jurisdictional requirements in every country in which we operate
  • Develop strong client and stakeholder relationships, implement effective communication programs, and transform our global employee support model
  • Drive consistent processes across the globe while allowing flexibility locally when required
  • Maximize the effectiveness of technologies and supporting processes to drive continuous improvement and change initiatives
  • Lead Global Payroll to ensure compliance with all corporate and country-specific policies, procedures and benefits
  • Evaluate and, if necessary, enhance SOX related controls and and other policy and regulatory compliance
  • Establish partnerships with third party vendors to ensure effective service delivery
  • Manage the global and/or regional payroll vendor relationships, including selection, contract negotiation, consolidation, and management of vendors
  • Implement and leverage technology that best fits the Company’s needs
  • Provide oversight and effective management of all team members (i.e. direct and indirect reports) to include but not limited to the following:
    • Coaching and counseling as appropriate
    • Employee development
    • Recruitment, selection, and development of talent
    • Managing, directing, and measuring work on an ongoing basis, providing timely constructive feedback to ensure quality of work meets or exceeds company standards
    • Assuring work is completed in a customer focused manner
  • Execution of special assignments and initiatives such as:
    • Development of a payroll playbook for acquisitions
    • Integrations of payroll related data to other company system implementations
    • Streamline reporting process and contacts to Finance for more efficient GL recording

Experience:
  • 10+ years of experience with global payroll and payroll tax
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, or a related field
  • Preferably a member of a recognized Payroll Professional body. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
  • Knowledge and experience with stock, travel, and time and attendance programs
  • Experience setting up payroll requirements for new tax entities
  • Experience with end to end payroll related M&A activities
  • Experience with outsourced payroll compliance vendors (e.g. ADP) and selection/administration required
  • Experience leading mid to large and geographically dispersed teams
  • Experience transforming a payroll function that is very siloed to one that is highly scalable and efficient
  • Comprehensive understanding of federal and state laws and payroll practices including preparation, balancing, internal control, and payroll taxes
  • Previous payroll management experience in multi-location multi-divisional environment
  • Knowledge of public company requirements including Sarbanes Oxley requirements and SOC II Controls
