Job description

Ciena is committed to our people-first philosophy. Our teams enjoy a culture focused on prioritizing a personalized and flexible work environment that empowers an individual’s passions, growth, wellbeing and belonging. We’re a technology company that leads with our humanity—driving our business priorities alongside meaningful social, community, and societal impact.

As a Security Product Line Manager at Ciena, you will be at the forefront of defining and leading cross-portfolio security initiatives. This high-visibility role requires a blend of technical expertise in the security domain, business acumen, and influential soft skills. You will work across Ciena’s NMS, Converged Packet Optical, and Routing & Switching product lines to ensure our security posture is industry-leading and meets the evolving needs of our customers and regulatory landscapes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership: Define and lead cross-portfolio security initiatives, market strategies, investments, and roadmaps.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work in a cross-functional manner across Ciena's product portfolio to guide and deliver security functionality.
  • Customer Engagement: Gather security feature requirements from key customers and assist sales with security roadmap presentations.
  • Market Analysis: Continuously assess customer needs, technology trends, the regulatory environment, and major competitors.
  • Development and Approval: Develop business cases for new features or initiatives and get the necessary approvals.
  • Product Marketing: Partner with marketing teams to develop product positioning and marketing collaterals.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Technical Expertise: Familiarity with the major players in the Network Security market, their products, positioning, and strategies. Solid knowledge of security technologies and deployment methodologies including cryptography key management and distribution. Knowledge about Post Quantum Cryptography and Quantum Key Distribution a bonus.
  • Networking Knowledge: Technical background and understanding of a wide variety of networking technologies and standards. Expertise in understanding the architectures, use cases, products, trends, and competitive landscape of major service providers, enterprises, MSOs, content providers, and data center operators.
  • Communication Skills: Superb communication, presentation, customer interaction, and interpersonal skills. The ability to communicate highly technical matters to non-technical individuals.
  • Leadership Qualities: Flexible and able to balance multiple tasks with minimal direction; ability to lead by example. Strong insight into competitive philosophies and strategies. Self-motivated leader that works well with a virtual team or individually as necessary.
  • Experience: A technical degree (BSEE minimum) and 10+ years of technical experience in telecommunications or data networking software or network security. Successful 5+ years of product management experience in the network security field or 8-10+ years of demonstrated experience in a highly technical role with a focus on security, including ownership of features and roadmap. Relevant certifications such as CISSP, CISA, and CISM are highly desirable.

Travel Requirements:

  • Approximately 35% travel required, including international travel for customer visits, trade shows, and cross-functional meetings.

The annual pay range for this position is $90,900 - $145,300 CAD.
