Job description

Job Title: Estimator (Australian Carpentry)

Location: Remote Start Date: Immediate Job Type: Full-Time

Job Summary

We currently have an opening for the position of Estimator (Carpentry). Estimators are responsible for accurately estimating the costs associated with carpentry projects, ensuring projects are financially viable and within budget. The Estimator will handle the 2nd fix carpentry scope of the client which consists of doors, skirtings, door frames, door architraves, window architraves, window nosing, window sills, door hardware, portico ceiling, eaves lining, decking, ceiling, and sundry hardware (toilet roll holder, grab rail, robe/coat hooks, soap dispenser, paper towel dispenser, hand dryer)

Key Responsibilities

  • Reviewing project plans and specifications to determine the scope of work.
  • Preparing detailed cost estimates for carpentry projects.
  • Analysing labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Collaborating with contractors and suppliers to obtain accurate pricing.
  • Preparing bid proposals and documentation for submission.
  • Monitoring project costs and making adjustments as necessary.
  • Communicating with clients to discuss project estimates and timelines.

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Handling the carpentry scope including doors, skirtings, door frames, door architraves, window architraves, window nosing, window sills, door hardware, portico ceiling, eaves lining, decking, ceiling, and sundry hardware.
  • Looking for projects on EstimateOne and downloading documents.
  • Calling or e-mailing clients to request information as well as the scope of work.
  • Taking off labor and materials for the carpenters.
  • Creating marked-up plans that show the legend.
  • Preparing detailed quote documents and writing up inclusions and exclusions of the quote.
  • Attaching project documents and correspondence on EstimateOne.
  • Following up with clients every 10 days after sending quotes.
  • Requesting quotations from suppliers for the company.
  • Contacting prospective customers from the BCI Central list to send out the company profile.
  • Creating Pre-builds in Simpro for labor and materials.
  • Creating the Customer profile in Simpro.
  • Searching for the project location to be included in the quote document.
  • Calling the owner to review quotations.
  • Documenting the workflow using Slite.
  • Scheduling activities in the Simpro calendar to list down all activities made during the day.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Relevant qualifications in carpentry, construction management, or a related field.
  • Experience:
    • Proven experience as an estimator in the carpentry or construction industry.
    • Strong experience with estimating software and tools.
  • Skills:
    • Excellent mathematical and analytical skills.
    • Strong communication and negotiation abilities.
    • Attention to detail and accuracy in work.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software.
