Job description

Velocity is seeking to hire a Sales Engineer. A Sales Engineer is a key contributor in our dynamic and rapidly growing solutions team. Leveraging expertise in telecommunications, networking, and wireless you will play a vital role in driving business growth through technical consultation, solution design, and exceptional customer support. Working closely with our sales team to understand customer needs, you will design customized solutions that address those customer challenges and contribute to the development of technical proposals.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the sales team(s) to understand customer needs and provide technical solutions that align with our product and service offerings.
  • Stay up to date on the latest developments in telecommunications, networking, wireless, low-voltage cabling, fiber optics, security cameras & recorders, and other equipment from multiple vendors.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of Velocity’s product and service portfolio.
  • Conduct product presentations, demonstrations, and technical discussions with clients to showcase the value of our solutions. Tailor presentations to address specific customer requirements.
  • Work closely with our Engineering team to analyze site survey results and design solutions based upon those results.
  • Prepare professional technical diagrams for presentation and deployment purposes.
  • Work closely with customers to design customized solutions that meet their unique business challenges, incorporating a range of technologies and products.
  • Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, including scope of work, technical specifications, and pricing. Ensure that proposals align with customer requirements and industry best practices.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key vendors and manufacturers. Stay informed about new products and technologies in the market.
  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support to the sales team(s) and customers. Address technical inquiries, conduct product training sessions, and resolve technical issues.

Qualifications, Experience and Education:

  • Minimum Requirements
    • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, telecommunications, a related field or equivalent work experience.
    • Proven experience in sales engineering, with a focus on telecommunications, networking, wireless, low-voltage cabling, fiber optics, and equipment from multiple vendors.
    • Strong technical knowledge of industry standards and best practices.
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
    • Proven ability to understand and translate customer requirements into technical solutions.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to motivate with a let's go attitude and a propensity to thrive in a nibble high-paced environment.
  • In-depth understanding of telecommunications and networking technologies, protocols, and architectures.
  • Familiarity with wireless communication technologies and their applications, including Wi-Fi, cellular networks, and IoT.
  • Knowledge of low voltage cabling systems, including installation, termination, and testing procedures.
  • Broad knowledge of equipment and solutions offered by various vendors in the industry, staying current with their product portfolios.
  • Ability to create comprehensive technical proposals, including scope of work, technical specifications, and pricing.
  • Ability to understand customer needs and provide technical solutions that align with both customer requirements and company offerings.
  • Proficient in designing customized solutions that address specific customer challenges using a combination of technologies and products.
  • Strong presentation skills, including the ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including sales, engineering, and customer support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities to address technical challenges and provide effective solutions.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving technologies and industry trends, ensuring a proactive approach to staying current in a dynamic environment.
  • Dedication to understanding and meeting customer needs, with a commitment to delivering high levels of customer satisfaction.
  • Effective time management skills to handle multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, meeting deadlines and priorities.
  • Understanding of sales processes and the ability to align technical solutions with business goals to drive sales.
