Remote IT Security Specialist - 1 Year Contract for Eastern Time Zone Residents

Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled IT Security Specialist to collaborate with the NC DHHS - Privacy and Security Office (PSO) in enhancing the security framework of the Child Welfare Information System (CWIS). This is a one-year remote contract position, and applicants must be currently residing in the Eastern Time Zone of the United States.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess and strengthen the security posture of the CWIS.
• Implement secure coding practices and vulnerability management techniques.
• Conduct threat modeling and risk assessments to identify potential security gaps.
• Secure containerized environments and seamlessly integrate security into container workflows.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards such as HIPAA and PCI DSS and implement necessary controls.
• Design and configure network security settings across layers 3, 4, and 7, particularly in a data center context.
  
  

Required Skills

• Profound understanding of security principles and practices.
• Extensive experience with containerization technologies, particularly Docker and orchestration tools such as Kubernetes (preferably Redhat OpenShift).
• Strong familiarity with regulatory compliance requirements and related security controls.
• Knowledgeable about the OSI networking model and its application in network security design.
• Hands-on experience in network security implementation.
  
  

Qualifications

• Relevant certifications such as Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH) or AWS Certified Security Specialty in security and DevOps practices are highly valued.
• Demonstrated experience in IT security architecture and compliance.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field is preferred.
