Job Title: Senior Accountant

Position Overview:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for the accurate and timely preparation of internal and external financial statements, supporting annual audits, quarterly reviews, and reporting to Shareholders and the TSX or SEC as required. This role ensures proper coding of expenses and revenues, matches expenses to periods using accruals, and works with other departments and external parties to ensure accurate reporting. The Senior Accountant must have a strong understanding of ASPE, IFRS, SOX compliance, and possess excellent communication and technical skills. The role requires a professional capable of excelling in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving environment. Key duties include reconciling balance sheet accounts, aligning GL coding with budget/forecast, coordinating the month-end close process, and updating NetSuite with new GL accounts, departments, users, and forecasts.
Primary Job Functions:
- Participate actively in the month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of financial statements and related reports.
- Monitor transactions for adherence to internal controls, company policies, regulatory requirements, and risk mitigation practices.
- Review and verify proper coding of expenses to the correct GL account and period.
- Analyze and report on expenses and revenues in comparison to budgets, forecasts, historical trends, and prior year results.
- Develop and implement variance analysis tools to ensure proper accruals and amortization of expenses.
- Enhance GL transaction procedures to improve the efficiency and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Prepare lead sheets and account reconciliations to meet the standards required by a big-four accounting firm.
- Resolve any unreconciled amounts within the accounting quarter promptly.
- Assist in internal and external audit processes as required.
- Safeguard the confidentiality of sensitive financial transactions.
- Foster and maintain proactive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the Safety Management System program through active participation and reporting.
- Support the rollout of new projects where applicable.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the organization.
Qualifications & Requirements:

- Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, and/or enrollment in the CPA program is required.
- Experience:
- Three (3) to five (5) years of progressively responsible experience, ideally within a start-up company or a division of a large corporation.
- Deep knowledge of the reconciliation process is required.
- Strong accounting transaction knowledge and understanding of transaction flow.
- Previous experience in the airline industry and with NetSuite is considered an asset.
