FanSided is looking for a coaching-minded leader who thrives in an exciting, fast-paced environment to join our editorial team as NHL Director.
As NHL Director, you’ll help oversee the management of FanSided’s NHL Division, including both full-time employees and contractors. You will craft and execute division-wide growth strategies by having an extensive knowledge of the NHL as well as the team sites and site leaders you oversee. You will communicate plans and goals with the individuals in charge of the sites as well as teach best practices and content strategies to help them grow. You will study search and readership trends, always looking to find the next big thing. You’ll create a vision of where you want to see the NHL division go and a plan to help get it there. Every day is a little different in this role, and that is something that excites you.
- Collaborate with the senior director of NHL as well as with other Minute Media teammates to create and communicate division-wide strategies around both tentpole events and the seasonal calendar.
- Use tools ranging from Google Search Console to SEMrush/Ahrefs to understand a site’s position versus competitors and search for ways to grow.
- Use both your past experience and analytics as part of a process for creating successful content ideas
- Work with site editors and contractors to craft individualized content strategies and communicate best practices for site growth.
- Study trends in social media and search engine optimization to stay on top of constant changes and teach the most up-to-date tactics.
The expected salary range for this position is between $60,000 and $70,000. Actual pay will be determined based on skills, experience, and location. The benefits available for this position include flexible vacation policy, 15 paid holidays, paid parental leave, health insurance, 401(k) with company match.
Requirements
- You have at least 3 years of digital sports editorial writing experience, advanced SEO and social media strategy knowledge, and a passionate love of sports. Your fandom isn’t seasonal, it is year-round.
- You have an established track record of growing digital media sites.
- You’re a thorough leader. You do what it takes to lead your team to success. You understand that each individual is different and strive to reach them where they are, using differentiated strategies to help them reach their goals.
- You’re flexible. You have the ability to turn your day on a dime, quickly brainstorm how to advance breaking news, do deep research to spot trends, teach best practices, and stay in constant communication with an assortment of teammates throughout. You know working in sports means sometimes needing to work nights and weekends, especially during the season and big events like the draft.
- You’re social. You have experience on social media engaging with fan communities. You know how to attack one topic and make it relevant across multiple platforms.
- You’re an engineer. You enjoy understanding what makes things work, from SEO to social media to understanding what makes a story resonate with readers. You like to use this understanding to experiment and further refine the craft.
