About the Job:
You will play a critical role in providing legal guidance and support to operating subsidiaries in the areas of bidding, contract negotiation, risk and claims management, and payment disputes. The Associate General Counsel will report to the Chief Legal Officer and be expected to self-perform work as well as manage outside counsel.
Job Details:
Position: Associate General Counsel
Location: Remote (Travel will be required)
Pay: $150,000 per year (negotiable based on experience)
Performance based bonus program.

Job Duties:
Construction Law
- Advise on construction contracts, project-related disputes, and claims, including contract interpretation and risk management.
- Handle litigation and disputes related to construction projects, including contractor agreements, warranties, and payment issues.
- Advise on mechanics' liens and bond claims
- Handle bid protests
- Oversee and monitor contractor licensing and qualifications
- Act as a liaison to outside counsel as necessary
Insurance Claims & Defense:
- Oversee and manage insurance claims related to construction defects, worker injuries, motor vehicle accidents, and third-party claims in conjunction with director of risk management
- Collaborate with insurance carriers and brokers to ensure proper coverage and claims management.
- Handle defense of lawsuits, including coordination with external legal counsel when necessary.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school
- Active member in good standing with the state bar.
- 5 years of experience in construction or government contracting.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex legal issues to non-legal professionals.
- Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills.
- Ability to work with strong personalities and take and provide constructive feedback.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience working in-house at a construction company or at a top law firm highly preferred
- Knowledge of government contracting, insurance, and other industry-specific laws.
- Familiarity with construction industry.
- Ability to travel 10-25% of the time.
