Job description

Position summary:

As an Associate Professor of the CDL program at Kilgore College will be responsible for delivering comprehensive instruction to students seeking Commercial Driver's Licenses. This position plays a crucial role in preparing students for successful careers in the transportation and logistics industry.

Position responsibilities:

  • Conduct classroom lectures and practical demonstrations on CDL regulations, safety protocols, and driving techniques as defined by the FMCSA.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that adhere to state CDL requirements and industry standards.
  • Provide hands-on training and supervision during vehicle operation to ensure students learn proper driving skills.
  • Assess student progress through tests, evaluations, and observations, providing constructive feedback for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate records of student attendance, performance, and completion of required training hours.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and administrative staff to enhance curriculum and program effectiveness.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and advancements in CDL training to incorporate into teaching practices.
  • Must be willing to obtain all endorsements available on a commercial license.
  • Other duties as assigned
     

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • CDL Class A or B license with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional driving experience, preferably in commercial transportation.
  • Proven experience in teaching, training, or mentoring individuals in a classroom or instructional setting.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of students, bilingual a plus.
  • Strong understanding of CDL regulations, safety practices, and industry standards as defined by CFR 49 and the FMCSA.
  • Certification as a CDL Instructor a plus.

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office and classroom environment.
  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk.

Provide resources for safe operation of units. Create and support workplace safety.

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is based on years of teaching at institutions of higher education and/or years in the professional industry and highest level of education. Base pay for 5 years of experience begins at $58,323 for an Associates degree, and increases based on degree and years of experience. Overload and summer classes are paid separately.
