Job description

Tradewater
Technical Content Writer
Location: Remote U.S.

Tradewater is a B Corp and mission-based project development company that is in business to prevent catastrophic climate change. Our mission is to improve the environment and create economic opportunity through the collection, control, and destruction of potent, super pollutant, non-CO2 greenhouse gases. Tradewater believes that a company committed to cleaning up the environment can be just as successful – if not more so – than a company that achieves its goals without regard to environmental impact.

Non-Co2 gases account for nearly half of all global warming from human activity since 1970.  Our work, referred to as “emergency brake solutions” by Project Drawdown, is essential to prevent catastrophic climate change. Our projects include the destruction of refrigerants and halon fire suppressants that are potent greenhouse gases and deplete the ozone layer. We also find, measure, and plug orphaned oil and gas wells that have no solvent operator and are leaking methane into the atmosphere. To date, we have permanently prevented over 7.5 million tons of CO2e from reaching the atmosphere and we are on a path to surpass 27 million tons of CO2e by the end of 2027.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a talented Technical Content Writer to join our team and support our efforts in disseminating scientific knowledge, technical information, and commercial insights to various stakeholders.
The Technical Content Writer is responsible for understanding and telling the Tradewater story across all platforms. This role is pivotal in translating our technical prowess into content that is appropriate for a broad audience ranging from government officials to corporate directors to individuals.

This role will work within the Marcom team but will interact with people from throughout the organization to tell the unique aspects of our work in a compelling and engaging way that highlights the impact that we have in fighting climate change.

While Tradewater is based in Chicago, we have offices and team members around the world. The Technical Content Writer position is primarily remote; however, candidates must be available, able and willing to travel according to the requirements listed below, including internationally as needed.
Applications for this position will be accepted through January 31, 2025

Key responsibilities include:
  • Collaborate closely with our multidisciplinary team to understand their work and develop accurate, engaging, and informative content that effectively communicates our work ranging from our on-the-ground efforts to mitigate emissions to our carbon credit offerings.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts and technical teams to gather information and translate scientific findings into clear, concise, and engaging written content.
  • Develop a wide range of materials, including white papers, case studies, technical reports, promotional collateral, and sales enablement tools adhering to company guidelines and style.
  • Edit and proofread for accuracy, clarity, grammar, and style consistency.
  • Ensure that all written materials meet high editorial standards and effectively convey key messages to target audiences.
  • Stay up to date on the latest scientific research, industry trends, and regulatory developments related to carbon markets and sustainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to provide editorial support and ensure that all content meets project deadlines.
  • Contribute to the development of communication materials for presentations, conferences, and other external events.
  • Support the company's marketing and communication efforts by creating engaging content for digital platforms, including websites, social media channels, and newsletters.
  • Collaborate with visual designers to create communication pieces that tell our story in the most compelling way leveraging both written and visual content.

Requirements:
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in English, a scientific discipline (e.g., environmental science, chemistry, physics, biology), or a related field with 5+ years of experience.
  • A strong background in scientific research as well as exceptional writing, editing and proofreading skills.
  • Proven experience as a Science Writer, Editor, or Technical Writer, preferably within the sustainability or environmental sector.
  • Keen attention to detail and the ability to conduct QA on a wide range of materials.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey complex scientific or technical information in a clear and compelling manner for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Familiarity with scientific literature databases and the ability to conduct literature reviews and synthesize information from multiple sources.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Demonstrated passion for sustainability and a deep understanding of climate change issues and their environmental implications.
  • Proficiency in understanding how to integrate written content together with charts, graphs, and other visual aids.
  • A confident yet humble approach able to work with a wide range of cultural styles.
