Artera’s Engineering department is seeking a talented Senior Software Engineer to join our Core Messaging team, focusing on product features that serve as a central hub, connecting and shaping multiple areas of our product suite. This role is ideal for someone with a passion for creating intuitive, real-time, front-end applications and a knack for solving complex technical challenges. You'll work on essential features such as the Collaborative Inbox ensuring seamless user experiences for healthcare staff.
As a front-end leaning (roughly 70/30 split) full-stack engineer, you'll collaborate with a robust team of software engineers, QA, and product experts to design and implement solutions that are foundational to our platform. This is a high-visibility, high-impact role where your work will be central to Artera’s mission of improving communication in healthcare.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop, test, and maintain front-end features for core messaging and staff communication functionalities, ensuring real-time performance and reliability.Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design scalable solutions and deliver high-quality features.Participate in Agile ceremonies, including standups, sprint planning, and retrospectives, as a Senior Engineer.Break down complex tasks into manageable work items, identify dependencies, and mitigate risks.Implement robust, cloud-based front-end applications with React and modern development practices.Debug and optimize performance for real-time events, latency, and state management.Lead by example in coding practices, project ownership, and proactive problem-solving.Contribute to on-call rotations to ensure the reliability of our systems.Mentor and collaborate with team members to elevate technical standards and achieve project goals.Requirements 5+ years of professional expertise in TypeScript and modern front-end frameworks such as React. Bachelor’s Degree in a STEM field preferred (equivalent experience in lieu of a degree is welcome).Experience building, deploying and maintaining cloud-based applications in production, including micro frontends (MFEs).Strong knowledge of RESTful web services and real-time, event-driven architecture.Demonstrated ability to deliver complex projects with cross-functional collaboration.Exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to deconstruct tasks and anticipate risks.Effective communication skills, with a proactive approach to collaboration and seeking help.Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.Bonus Experience with real-time events (e.g. Server Sent Events), Front-end state management, TanStack. Background in building high-traffic, real-time collaboration software.Experience with AWS.Knowledge of healthcare technology and its unique challenges.LOCATION
Artera values in-person collaboration and is currently hiring in the following US cities: Santa Barbara, Los Angeles, San Francisco/Bay Area, Kansas City, Seattle, Denver, Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia (Wayne).
Artera HQ is in Santa Barbara, CA, with an additional US office located in Philadelphia (Wayne), PA. If you live in the Santa Barbara or Philadelphia area, your role will be hybrid, and you will be expected to work out of your designated office location regularly, following local office guidelines. While three days a week may be a general guideline, the specific requirement will be set regionally based on the needs of the local office and the role.
If you live in one of our other hubs, your role will be remote to start. As our team continues to grow in these cities, Artera will explore opening offices in these locations, but there is currently no timeline in place for that. Once that happens, in-office attendance will similarly follow regional expectations, with flexibility to align with the local office's norms and the specific job requirements.
