IGS is currently recruiting for a remote Technical Writer to support our work with the Department of Health and Human Services. 


Assignment of Work and Travel:

This is a remote access assignment. Candidate will work remotely daily and will remotely access HHS systems and therein use approved HHS provided communications systems. Travel is not required; however, the candidate may be required to attend onsite client meetings as requested.


Description: 

The Technical Writer will be responsible for writing and/or editing technical documents, including business proposals, reports, user manuals, installation manual, security manual, RoboHelp file, Test scripts, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), training material, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements.   


Responsibilities and Duties (Included but not limited to):

  • Write and edit technical documents, including reports, user manuals, briefings and presentations, functional descriptions, system specifications, guidelines, special reports, and other project deliverables to meet contract requirements. 
  • Develop outlines and drafts for review and approval by technical specialists and project management ensuring that final documents meet applicable contract requirements and regulations, including 508 compliances. 
  • Research and gather technical and background information for inclusion in project documentation and deliverables in adherence to pertinent government guidelines and regulations. 
Requirements
  • Minimum BA in English or a closely related field  
  • Minimum 1 years of relevant experience as Technical Writer  
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a High-Level HHS Public Trust clearance. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Prior experience working as a Technical Writer in a government or government contractor setting.   
  • Proficiency using and working with Microsoft Office Suite of products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and SharePoint  
  • Proficiency using and working with Adobe Acrobat Pro or other PDF document applications.  
  • Experience working in an integrated virtual work environment utilizing various collaboration techniques and tools is preferred.  
  • Must be a self-motivator with ability to work remotely as part of a team, or independently with little supervision or direction.  

Preferred Qualifications and Core Competencies: 

  • Active HHS Public Trust 
  • Experience with RoboHelp and Lifecycle Design is preferred.  
  • Prior, successful experience working in a remote environment.
  • Ability to learn and use style guides and polices quickly is preferred.  
  • Understanding and experience working with The Chicago Manual of Style and/or Microsoft Manual of Style for Technical Publications. 
  • Understanding and experience with HHS Electronic and Information Technology accessibility standards 
  • Ability to work in cross functional team.

Compensation: There are a host of factors that can influence final salary, including, but not limited to, geographic location, Federal Government contract labor categories and contract wage rates, relevant prior work experience, specific skills and competencies, education, and certifications.
