Technical Architect

About the role/Responsibilities:
 

• Great.gov.uk team – This team will be needed for the on-boarding process to help give an overview of the service and explain how the wider technical architecture works. They will also be needed throughout the process for technical questions and assurance digital service standards are being met. 
• Live Services team – This team will be embedded into the Live Services Team and will work with them on implementing VOD for UKEA. They will work with their peers to understand our processes and attend the team ceremonies/stand ups.
• Platform Operations team – Close collaboration is needed with this team to ensure that the new VOD service is able function on great and handle potential increased traffic. The team would have recently completed moving great.gov from GDS PaaS to DBT platform.

What you’ll be doing

• Lead the technical architecture design and implementation for the codebase refresh project, ensuring alignment with project objectives and requirements.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business needs and translate them into technical solutions.
• Define and document technical requirements, specifications, and architectural designs.
• Evaluate and recommend technologies, frameworks, and tools to support project goals.
• Provide technical guidance and support to development teams throughout the project lifecycle.
• Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
• Identify and address technical risks and issues proactively.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies such as sprint planning, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.

About you/Experience

• You can strategically shape and lead analysis as part of multi-disciplinary teams operating within programme, portfolio or scaled agile methodologies.
• You have demonstratable experience of successfully contributing to the delivery of Digital products and projects in the Public Sector using GDS.
• Proven experience as a Technical Architect or similar role in software development projects.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices.
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, Python, or JavaScript.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Familiarity with Agile methodologies and iterative development processes.
