Scopely is looking for a  Technical Designer to join our industry leading game, Marvel Strike Force team on a remote U.S. basis

What You’ll Do

 The ideal candidate has experience with RPG or strategy game systems and content, and understands how game balance, controls, and aesthetics interact to create a compelling combat experience. Additionally, the candidate will be an avid player of RPG’s, strategy, and action games across multiple platforms.

Reporting to the Combat Balance Lead, the Game Designer will closely collaborate with our product, art, and engineering groups  to design and balance new characters and teams. You will be expected to:

  • Design new character kits that fit with our evolving meta

  • Put yourself in the mind of our players, understanding what they want from our characters and combat

  • Debug issues and work closely with engineers and other designers as you develop, balance,  and implement characters.

  • Partner with combat balance leads on future updates and how it will impact the meta/combat/character(s)

  • Work with the testing efforts of each character and ensure they are fully tested and signed off

  • Work with product management and game design leadership to plan, generate and implement new characters as well as tune older characters for new teams

  • Review and analyze the results of your content to improve the overall combat meta

  • Help bring comic book characters into a mobile hero collector that excite our players and does justice to established MARVEL characters

  • Become a MARVEL Strike Force expert, leveraging your own experience and community feedback

What You’ll Need:

  • Experience working as a Designer in a combat balance role

  • Ability to work well within a dynamic, cross-discipline, and iterative team environment

  • Positive and collaborative, with an ability to receive and provide objective, useful feedback

  • Understanding of what makes a fun and dynamic encounter in an RPG

  • You’re someone who is self-motivated, who thrives in an agile environment

  • You have deep passion for creating polished and innovative gameplay experiences

  • You have good knowledge of game design and design theory

  • Strong communications skills, both in-person and remotely

Bonus Points:

  • Experience working with databases, Perforce source control, scripting, and .json

  • Experience playing Marvel Strike Force.

  • A passion for Marvel comics and movies.

  • A deep understanding of social, mobile, and free-to-play game systems and economies.

For candidates in CA, CO, NJ, NY and WA, the annual salary range is $107,500 - $165,000, plus equity, bonus and benefits including healthcare benefits, retirement benefits, pet insurance, paid holidays, paid Scopely free days, and unlimited paid time-off. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
