Job description

ABOUT YOU

Do you want an opportunity to use your skills to make a difference to the planet, the economy, and a company? Are you looking for the role which will elevate your career to the next level? Can you deliver exceptional performance and lead by example?

Oxygen Conservation is recruiting a lawyer to support all aspects of our ambitious business and our growing portfolio of managed conservation estates. This is a unique opportunity to work in the environment sector but, don’t worry, you do not need to be a specialist environmental lawyer to apply! This is a commercial role which will see you advising on everything from estate acquisitions, natural capital development projects, and corporate structuring and funding arrangements, through to intellectual property protection, data security and privacy, and employment matters.

We are open to candidates who have worked in private practice, in-house or a combination of both in their career to date, and welcome applications from qualified solicitors in either England or Scotland. We think it is important for you to have at least two years post-qualification experience, but would be delighted to speak to more senior lawyers who are excited about the opportunity to work in conservation.

The role is demanding. You must be comfortable dealing with complexity and nuance, a varied workload, and juggling competing priorities, and be able to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment. Strengths in relationship building and communication are key, as this role will require you to act as the principal point of contact with internal and external stakeholders. The key skills, attributes and interests that we consider to be valuable for this role are set out below.

Environment:

  • Passionate about the environment, sustainability and achieving real impact. Our commitment to this is unwavering and guides us in every decision we make. It is the driving force that propels us forward. We are looking for that same commitment in you.

  • Interest in, and excitement about, how lawyers can contribute to the growing natural capital economy.

Impact:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to support relationship building across our business.

  • A genuine desire to deliver high-quality legal work in a timely manner. Not because someone is making you do so, but because personal standards matter to you.

  • An ability to ‘connect the dots’ and deliver value, whilst maintaining attention to detail when needed.

  • The ability to tailor exceptional advice to the stakeholder and maintain focus on our strategic priorities.

  • The skills to focus on finding pragmatic, commercial solutions to challenging problems and a willingness to ‘roll up your sleeves’ up to solve problems.

  • A ‘can do’ attitude - no job is too big or too small for any of our team.

Adventure and Togetherness:

  • Collaborative by default and a desire to contribute to growth and development of the business as a whole and each of our team members individually.

  • A passion for adventures in nature, and excitement about joining us for incredible team experiences.

  • And let’s be honest, you must be a really nice person too. Sharing snacks on long journeys and good humour whilst on a hillside in the driving rain is mandatory
