What You'll Do

Avalara is dedicated to simplifying the complexities of tax registrations and business licensing. We are looking for a Licensing Research and Data Specialist to help grow the Business Licenses product line.

You will work with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) based in the United States, under their management and direction, to provide solutions that address customer needs and align with Avalara’s strategic goals. Your work will focus on streamlining the collection of data required to register customers with the necessary tax registrations and business licenses to operate their businesses. You will report to the VP Product Manager. This is a Pune onsite job.

Key Responsibilities

What Your Responsibilities Will Be

Execution & Delivery

  • Review registration and license application requirements at state and local levels.
  • Use our online questionnaire editor tool to add content and ensure new registration and licensing products, using data validation and business logic (no-code).
  • Maintain existing questionnaire content by consolidating questions, enhancing data validation, and applying business logic.


Product Support & Strategy Execution

  • Collaborate with US-based SMEs to understand and support the product vision, strategy, and priorities for the Business Licenses product.
  • Build strategic directives that align with the product roadmap and customer needs.


Customer-Centric Development

  • Collect feedback from customer support teams and filing agents to improve questionnaire content, enhancing customer satisfaction and operational efficiency.
  • Develop solutions that prioritize user needs, ensuring a seamless and valuable user experience.


Collaboration

  • Partner with product managers, engineers, and cross-functional teams to refine product features.
  • Guide communication between India-based teams and US-based SMEs, customer service teams, and filing agents to ensure.


Domain Expertise

  • Comprehensive knowledge of US sales and payroll tax registrations, and business licensing regulations, including federal, state, and local compliance requirements.
  • Familiarity with licensing workflows, including initial applications and renewals across multiple industries.


What You'll Need to be Successful

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in research and data analysis.
  • Background in compliance, licensing, or regulatory software solutions (preferred).
  • Experience drawing relevant insights from ambiguous data with a data-driven approach.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams across geographies and time zones.
  • Ability to work during morning hours in the US Northeast time zone to ensure understanding of US-based SMEs and stakeholders.
  • Organizational and Experience balancing longer-term projects with bugs and customer requests
  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (MBA or advanced degree preferred).
