The Philanthropy Department is hiring a Grants Manager to support the fundraising team in managing grants. The role involves overseeing grant deliverables, organizing reports from program teams, and handling communications/PR tasks. Reporting to the Director of Philanthropy Operations, the Grants Manager will assist with office administration, record keeping, grant budget development, and ensuring compliance and quality control. This role will support foundation, corporate, and government grants and collaborate with finance, development, and program staff for efficient grant processes. The department manages a $70 million fundraising and grant portfolio with 25-30 staff nationwide.
The Opportunity…
The Grants Manager at GRID Alternatives will support the Philanthropy team in managing 110-130 annual grants, improving operational efficiency, and enhancing grant-related processes. The role focuses on organizational and project management skills to aid the fundraising team in all aspects of grants management.
Job Duties:
- Collaborate with grant team (Development team and Program team) and Finance to develop grant budgets
- Review grant award letters to identify promised deliverables and compliance requirements
- Review budget spend down through grant period
- Track deliverables, milestones, and reporting requirements through grant period
- Collect impact data and program updates from program staff and data analysts for use in reporting
- Record Keeping Duties include:
- Monitoring and enforcing standards for team data entry of follow-up activities and grant requirements in Salesforce CRM
- Record-keeping and managing award documentation to adhere to a document storage policy
- Use Salesforce CRM to produce reporting on program impacts and record/track grant deliverables
- Systems Development
- Lead grant kick-off meetings and hand-off process to program managers
- Lead grant reporting process including grant award/ reporting meetings
- Develop and maintain standard organizational and programmatic content and data for the Philanthropy Grant Writing Toolkit (a compilation of frequently used grant-related information and program impact data) for use by HQ and regional fundraising staff
- Work with Director of Philanthropy Operations on special projects and system development, such as developing standard operating procedures and training related to grant management, or data clean up processes related to grants
What You Need To Bring To This Role…
- Proven track record of 4+ years in Grant Management
- Evidence of superior organizational and project management skills
- CRM experience, with the ability to learn and adapt to GRID’s customized Salesforce instance
- Passion for sustainability, affordable housing, the environment, or environmental justice, or just generally grounded in making the world a better place
- Analytical, detail-oriented, productive, and works well under pressure with tight deadlines and changing priorities
- Fast learner and entrepreneurial problem-solver
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Strong communication (written and verbal) skills and interpersonal skills
- Team player who can work both independently and collaboratively
- Upholds donor intent, professional ethics for fundraisers, and the culture of philanthropy
- Good “customer service” skills and focus
- Versatile learner committed to self-improvement, employs strengths effectively, willingly shares knowledge with others, seeks coaching on areas needing improvement, adjusts behavior/performance as needed, and views mistakes as learning opportunities
It would be great if you also had…
- Experience with project management tools such as Asana, MS Project, or Smartsheet
- Nonprofit experience including familiarity with fundraising processes
- Government grant award management experience
Where you will sit and the places you may go…
This position may rarely require up to 25% out-of-town travel to regional offices and special projects such as company-wide celebrations, team building exercises, etc. Availability to work nights and weekends may very rarely be required.
GRID Alternatives may provide vehicles for work travel and/or travel reimbursement for personal vehicle use. In this instance, applicants must hold a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.

This is a full-time, exempt position. Salary pay commensurate with experience within the pay band
($70k- $80k annually), plus the benefits below.
